Always planning a trip somewhere.

We are looking at going out west again and would like to explore Idaho. Our favorite types of campgrounds have sites located very near (almost on) water. Our only requirement is that the campground be big rig friendly (our mh is right at 40ft). Power and water would be nice, but not necessary.

We don't have any particular place in mind, most likely a couple of days at each campground.

We are just looking for beautiful scenery and solitude. Do any of you folks here have some suggestions? Photos of the campgrounds would be great.

Thanks is advance.

If you're looking for a "CAMPGROUND" then it's pretty hard to beat ANY of the ones located on either the Salmon or the Payette River. One of our favorites is Upper Obrian which is located about 10 miles East of Stanley Idaho but traveling WEST from Stanley and into the Payette valley is ALSO a great camping area. Keep in mind though that these are CAMPGROUNDS not RV Parking lots. Good luck / Skip

We just got back from a week in Idaho Panhandle area. It seemed to me that Idaho does not spend a lot on tourism.
We found Clearwater Crossing RV Park to be a nice place. There is some scenic drives in the area.

Both of these are great....unfortunately both are in the same place. Nice state parks, too. Farragut State Park on Priest Lake is one. Three Island Crossing way down south another. When you get to the Idaho border, stop at a visitor's center. They have a great dedicated brochure that covers everyplace in the state where you can stick an RV. Another I should mention is Challis Hot Springs. Wonderful! Also spots around Stanley. There are a lot that meet your criteria in some way.

There are many in west central Idaho on Cascade Lake, like Crown Point SP and others, then there is Pondarosa SP on Payette Lake in McCall. Plus both towns have several commercial RV parks on the Payette river.

Couer D'Alene has a few. Wolfe was nice but near a "river" that is more like a big creek. There is a KOA (I know I know) that is in the similar area but would be near or on the lake. That part of the state was very pretty indeed. We were just passing through on the way to and from Yellowstone so didn't stay long.

Last year I stayed at Red Rock Cyn CG which is a Commerical CG(although Good prices) but right down the road was Henry's Lake State Park, Id. I drove through and as I recall they have water and electric sites, the CG is very close to water and the prices were very resonable....one other plus, your only a few minutes from Yellowstones West Entrance. Have Fun....
