It's true what one member of this forum referred to - there is loads of work in Alberta with good paying jobs. I note you are from Texas, which is quite a-ways off, but if you could ever make it up our way (Canada). I'm from the other end of the country (New Brunswick) and although a small town, our two biggest employers have shut down within the last 6 mos. Many were left without jobs, pension, etc. and some opted to sell their homes and some didn't (they travel back and forth every so many months). A glut of homes for sale also - some selling from 30,000 to 75,000 - and they're good homes. Alberta housing is a bit more pricey but I doubt much more than in Texas. They need all kind of workers. Heard an ad for $30/hr. for an honest store clerk...Saskatchewan is the supposedly next big oil find or wind-generated province - who knows? Just thought I'd put my 2-cents worth in case you're ever prone to do come this way...B.T.W. I honestly think we're all in for one rough ride...

All I can say is hang in been there done that my first wife left the boy's first day of fouth grade never paid a dime of child support. I worked 2 jobs for 5 years to support the boy and I. Drove an old pickup full of rust, I do understand. Pride can be a hard thing to get past looking back I think I needed to find all the govt programs available if not for me then for the boy's sake. Years late remarried with grandkids I still work full time and 2 part time jobs just don't seem to take it for granted that the money will be there. The wife works full time too plus we own 2 rental properties There can be better time ahead just hang in there.

I only have this to say, I wish you the best in all your endeavors. Follow good and intuitive practices, sound advice, and things will get better.
If you want to grow a garden, you ask the successful gardener that has the showplace, not the gardener that has the biggest weed patch in town. If you want to be successful in any venture, get your advice from someone that has already succeeded. Don't take your advice from the person next to you in the pits, what can they tell you that you don't already know?

Does that mean that those who are "sucessful" become instant millionaires on the first try? How many successful businessmen were in the pits at one time or another? I suspect Edison was in the pits many times until he discovered the proper material for a light bulb filament (over 700 tested materials I think).

He didn't write that traxtermax......what I believe he did write was; "don't take advice from broke people whom also find themselves in the pits." --They can't help advise you......
One HUGE point which Dave Ramsey and I, happen to agree with beemerphilel on.......

Joe:
I quoted what he wrote and it wasn't in quotes so I assume he meant what he said. I agree with your "interpretation" of his statement but it seemed to dismiss anyone's opinion who was in the pits. Of course you aren't going to consult your dentist about your income tax.
Sometimes, like Edison, people are "broken" and discouraged before they become successful and their failures may be of benefit to others--that was my point.

Well I see we still have the wizards who pass out advice to others on how those others should suffer. No doubt those advice peddlers MAY not come to hard times then again MAYBE they will. We shall then have an opportunity to see how well they follow their advice.
Check out the folks who looked for ledges to jump from in the 29 crash, good chance we have a reprise comming.

Bolgna on the advice on how to be poor and suffer. Most such advice comes from those who have never suffered. I've been there folks and slick advice is worth what you pay for it.
I recall being between 4 an 5 yrs old and having a Dollar. That was all Dad, Mom and I had.
But here's the deal the depression was caused by the same sort of folks who pass out advice and do the things that are causing the next one.,
