my younger brother was a diabetic he didn't follow any diet and ate what he wanted and used insulin to keep the sugar down it didn't work he lost his toes then his feet then his legs, his kidneys went and was on dialysis every couple of days he ended up wearing a colostomy bag under his shirt because of intestinal problems he spent more time in the hospital then home and I watched him go threw a long slow painfull death his liver went then his heart and he just made it to 40 years old and left 2 children behind now his son has it and he's almost as bad as his father was in taking care of himself.do what they tell you to do and get it under control befor its to late to help you.some people go blind if they dont get it under control its not fun watching someone going that way and theres nothing you can do about it.

As a type 2 myself, tell him if you don't swing the stick soon, you won't have to.

He'll get the idea.
I'm the shortest in the family of five boys, I told him pretty soon I won't be the shortest if he doesn't do something about it.

I've been a dialysis nurse for 31 years. Half of my patients were diabetics like him. None of them had all their digits. Notice the past tense.

I forgot to mention my brother died of diabetes complications at age 54. (acute pancreatitis, liver involvement, etc.) He refused to give up his beer. Don & Jim were very good friends when they were younger. Don was not part of my life at that point, but even this knowledge does not sway him.

Depending on so many factors no one can tell for certain what the future lies for him. My mothers hovered at 500 for several years and was in denial with everyone begging here to do something(it ran heavily in her family). She then had a massive heart attack which damaged the biggest part of her heart. It was found out that she had 2 major arteries completely closed and another over %80 but due to the out of control diabetics which had damaged her circulatory system to the point that her arteries were so fragile that a bypass of anykind or a transplant to replace the heart could not even be considered, she did live another seven years(doctors gave 6months, she was a fighter). I loved my mother very much and still wonder if I had done something else or been more aggressive in pushing her to take care of herself that she might have been able to see her grandkids graduate High school. Initially she had been on an oral drug that she refused to take most of the time, at the end she was taking 3 shots a day for insulin and more pills than I could count. But all comes down to him, I wish you and him the best of luck, God Bless.

She was only 54.

Check out this website.

Then try some alkaline water. It will lessen your need for medicine. Then convince your brother that he also needs a alkaline water machine in his home.

my dh has type 2 also. he didn't find out until his feet had 50% neuropathy. he takes his meds and his feet have remained much the same for years. his blood sugar was at 439 the first time he had it checked; so your brother may already have some health issues going on. just tell him you hope he has someone to push him around when the time comes.

I checked out the site for Kangen water and saw the reference to diabetes. Anyone tried this out? Where does it get its source of water? How does it change tap water into akaline water?

Since I have diabetes I might be interested but its hard to believe that something as simple as water can help control blood glucose.
