When I received this email a couple of years ago, I contacted PayPal. They told me all of their correspondences would have my complete name. And that would be the easiest way to tell the fraud from a real one.

Thanks very much for the heads up. Some people are so gullible it is unreal. Excuse me for the short post, but I have won the Nigerian lottery and have to e-mail a lot of personal info to claim my winnings!

ANY emails I get from eBay or PayPal go immediately to their Spoof addresses: spoof@ebay.com and/or spoof@paypal.com

I never read them since if they want to reach me they will do it in their web site. They ALWAYS respond telling me whether or not the email was fraudulent. I have not had a response yet that said they were legitimate.

I get those and also ebay ones. Recently though, I got a new one. It was one from the IRS and apparently I need to call them about tax money I apparently overpaid and am due a refund.

Very scary as I have no doubt some people are in desperate straights financially and would believe this email. The elderly could get scammed easily with an IRS letter too.

I sent the IRS one to a government scam alert as I thought this was just scary and that too many people would fall for it!

Two days ago, I was signing onto my credit card account. It came up saying I needed to reidentify myself and had spaces to type in credit card number and social security number. And it really looked like part of their website. Clicked off that one real quick. Then went back and was able to sign onto my account the second attempt. Don't know enough about computers to know how someone did that, but at least I know enough to not fall for it.

Never follow a link in any email that sends you to pay pal ever. Always type the address by hand.

And as to Nigerian students....... I thought it was the Nigerian prince that was always the one needing to use your bank account to get his untold millions that he'd gladly share with you if you'd just give him all your personal info.

Also, if it comes from Paypal it will have your name on it. Dear . If it does not have your name on the Dear line, that is the first clue that it is a fake.
