Mandrake - my Dane is a skittish girl and freaks in thunder storms. I anticipated the fireworks doing the same, so I took both dogs on a long, long walk until they were all tuckered out. She slept straight through the kabooms, sizzles and whistles.
I had one "mutt" that died a few years ago. While he was alive, every July 4th and New Years Eve, He would do his best to climb into my skin. I always ended up with bruises and scratches but he was terrified.aby. Poor baby.
I always go into 'lock down mode' on the 4th. I am inside the MH with the tv on loud. Fireworks put me back in a place that I don't want to go. So I sympathize with the critters. :>)

Funny, our cat, a Bengal, is not intimidated by fireworks or gunfire.
Maybe he's just stupid?
When the monsoons are active as they are starting to be here now, he sticks his head out the open window when the lightning and thunder gets going.
Go figure!
Most dogs and other cats we have had did not care for loud noises.
Suki doesn't mind them as long as she can see them. If she is in the house she's running around barking. If she is outside with us she's got her eyes to the skies and watching them. The only ones that bother her are the whistle ones. And we usually cover her ears for those!
