i was wondering if anyone knows of a good quality RV dealer in CT.?
i have heard good and bad reviews on a few of the major ones, but i am interested in what any of the rest of you around this area think. i am interested in either a large or small dealership as long as they are well priced and of sound quality.
we are looking to upgrade from our small 13ft T.T. to a 25ish size, we are expecting our first child this December and we would like to see our options for next season and if it will even be possible to afford, lol.
thanks in advanced for the help. and if there is a better area to post this question, please feel free to move it. thanks again.
our first camper.. it is small but perfect for us newlyweds! i can't figure out how to fit my pic in the sig.. so you will have to look at my profile to see it.
Not sure what part of CT your from but we live in MA and just purchased from RV Direct in Albany NY. The whole process was pretty smooth and they have some of the best prices.
hmm, albany? do they have a good selections of rv's? were they pushy? easy to get to from the highway? sorry for all the questions, just wanna know before we start going out of state to look at rv's.
When we were looking, we went to the few we could find - Dave's in Danbury didn't have any in stock at the time, now they have an Ultralight line they carry, the name is escaping me though, something with a "P". There was a dealer in Plainville (exit 32 off of 84) that was nice enough, price seemed reasonable for what they had, but we wound up buying slightly used from TravelRite in Vermont for a large $$ savings. We also s/w folks from Van's RV Center at the show in Hartford where we bought our trailer, folks seemed nice and knoweledgeable, but the prices were a bit much compared to what else we saw.

Avoid Longview in CT and possibly MA too. Super pushy. We noticed the same thing about Van's. Stuck hard to NADA on our trade in offer (overheard them doing the same to another customer) and didn't budge on their "sale" price of the 08 TT we were looking at either. We have since managed to find 2 dealers in MA who offered better prices on 2009 models of the same TT model. We told them of the other prices and they seemed to not care. Diamond RV in Hatfield MA were good to deal with and I have heard good things about Custom Camper in SOuthington CT.
oh ya, dh and i had an "experience" with long view in mass. about 2 years ago. we were on our way home from a snowmobiling trip and decided to stop in and take a look, well even though we told them we were just looking, they were pushing us, and asking all about out current TT and telling us the trade in value, they were writing out a sales ticket on the camper we liked after telling them several times we weren't looking to buy, just seeing what is out there in our range.
i see custom camper once in a while when were are heading to mother in laws place in southington/plainville line. guess we should stop in there and take a look.
Have not purchased a camper from them or even looked at their inventory, but did visit their parts showroom and asked several questions. Were nice, friendly, and helpful. They have always had a large selection of TT, As , Bs, and Cs. No TC Hemlock Hill RV - Exit 28 off 84
I think this is where my brother purchased a pop-up from. He lives in western CT. I think he felt he got a good deal, but do not know details. Again, no TC when I was looking. I do know that he has not been there for service (distance?) and has gone to Hemlock Hill for parts.

Mirrors what we experienced there and worse in CT. We were in the office with our then 9 month old and felt as though we were being held hostage. They rolled in "manager" after "manager" until I got to the point of almost stating that the next person who got between me and the door was going to get laid out. Seriously. I would never deal with them again.
As was mentioned by another, we purchased the new Jayco in our signature from RV Direct, a.k.a. Albany RV, in Albany, NY. They gave us their best deal (I assume) and didn't budge from that price. When all was said and done, we received a 34% discount from the MSRP, better than any other local Jayco dealers by thousands of dollars, well worth the two-hour one-way trip. From their web site, put in your zipcode which will give you Albany to see what new RVs they handle, and then choose the ones you wish to request a quote for. There was no pressure. We did all our dealing over the phone. Never did physically meet our salesperson.
RV Direct/Albany RV is pretty easy to get to off I-90 between I-87 & I-787 on Central Ave. We actually saw the trailer we decided on at two different dealers, so we weren't going into the deal blind before we ordered it from the factory. We're happy with the deal, the dealer, and the TT.

If you ever get up to the White Mtns of NH, try Traffords RV in Conway....great family owned and run dealer that sells quality products. They are Carriage RV's national service winner year after year.
I've had plenty of bad dealer experiences....but not with them.
