Well, I just got off the phone with the in-laws who have been at Lakewood for a whole 2 days and the little thieves have struck again.
Last year, someone stole our cooler and our neighbor's cooler.
Today, after a couple hours at the local flea market, my in-laws returned to their site to find a folding camp chair missing as well as 2 of the semi-expensive reclining (La Fuma style) chairs stolen. They reported it to Lakewood's security office who said their was nothing that could be done. A chat with the manager yielded the quote ''I'm responsible for 160 acres here, what do you expect me to do?''. While filing a police report at the security shack, my in laws noticed a young 20's couple there and began to talk to them only to find out that this couple's ENTIRE CAMPSITE had been stolen ( tent, sleeping bags, cooler, grill, all of it!).
I'm not sure what is worse - the fact that 2 years in a row our family has been the victim of theft while camping? Or the fact that Lakewood's management is making NO EFFORT to provide a safe and enjoyable camping experience. I guess so much for a campground with good Christian values as they advesrtise themselves. Oh, and the kicker, the staff also told my in-laws that if they didn't like it they can file an insurance claim!?!

Sorry to hear about that. We have been lucky and have only had 1 item stolen from us. The sewer hose! LOL Ticked us off though because they took the bumper plug also.
Just another reason to add to our why not to use that CG, along with their refusal to enforce their own rules, about Golf Carts being recklessly operated by kids and drunks.

I understand your aggravation. But I also understand LW stance. There are over 2000 campsites there, and most have a different family in them every week. I don't see how we can expect them to watch each one, and when something is stolen. Are they supposed to search every site, and camper? Don't see how. When we go. We lock our bikes up when not using them. but we do that at every CG.
Other than providing a patrol. Who dosen't really know who belongs to what site. There isn't much they can do. We had a cooler taken last year. We have come to realize. Campers of today, aren't the campers of yesterday. Gone are the days when campers were trust worthy. The new generation is just different. Brought up different. Its not just Lake Wood. Its every where.
I'm sorry about the theft. But I have to agree with Terryallan. That campground is far too big for the staff to patrol every campsite, and to know who belongs at each campsite.
Leaving your things out unattended is just asking for trouble. Lock them up if you don't want them stolen from you.
yea too bad it happened. I am sure the other campgrounds in MB have the same issues, just how mgmt deals with it. We have been to LW twice and never had any problems. Heading down in a few weeks too. Guess we'll lock the bikes and put the nice chair up if we leave just in case. Would be great if somebody had one of those security cameras and caught the theives.
We have just returned from 9 days at LWood and we never even locked our doors and left everything sitting outside. Our 17 year old grandson and his cousin were out walking our street at midnight and were told by a guard to get off of the street or be arrested for tresspassing. They came straight home and told us. We then saw 3 families out walking and also saw 4 people walking their dogs after this. So even though I am mad at security for the way they treated them, at least they were out there anyway. I have never felt unsafe or unprotected there. We were in the 6600 area at the north end of the CG.
I also agree with TheTexan on the golf cart issue. I feel it is one of those things where when money gets involved, rules are over-looked.

Which is why I am surprised they did leave things out after being victimized in the same campground twice before.

I agree with the golf cart post up near the top. I could hear "beeping" in my sleep for weeks. Teenagers blasting rap music and acting like animals. I will NEVER go back to Lakewood.
