Sometime after extended stays of a week or more (without full hook up) we would have a clog. So I stoped counting on the sewer flush system in our unit and purchased a long water hose to run directly from the out side water (not through the rv) source directly in the toilet. I started this at the dump station because once using the unit sewer flush system the black tank was half full and half empty , in other words water from the sewer flush system was running out but the inside toilet was stoped up. The direct water hose took care of this problem. Its is a little more work but iit solves the problem.
I don't have one but it seems that the Flush King description needs one extra step. After inputting water from the garden hose, with the downstream gate valve closed and the upstream valve open, I think one should CLOSE the upstream valve, shut off the water, remove the hose, and seal the hose connection. Then dump as usual.
If not, how does one keep the `stuff' out of the garden hose?

It sounds as if you now have the RV home. Just fill the holding tank with water and let it sit till your ready to go camping the next time. The clog will break down if that's what's causing the draining problem. It may also be the knock out from the toilet flange that's blocking the outlet. This has happened more than once. If you have a cable or extension shaft on your valve, make sure it has not come loose and the valve is not opening fully.
If it's just a clog, next time use more water in the tank before you start to use the tank and be sure to use plenty of water with each flush of solids. There is no need to use any type treatments in the tank.
I can not agree with any sweeping statement saying you never need chemicals in the tank that break down solid waste.
We all use these campers for different reasons at different locations.
Yes it is a holding tank but some people have to hold it longer than others.
Some people don’t (cant) dump as often as others.
Just as an example, for me I never have full hook ups.
Well one thing we all agree on is that you need lots of water in that black tank, but water alone will not break down some of the solids in there (Neither will dish soap.)

Dick the flush King has a "back-flow" preventer on it.
The bad water can't get into the hose.
I don`t know what the "standard" is on how much stink is normal, but I can tell you what we had coming out of the toilet with just a normal flush isn`t anything anybody should ever have to smell more than once in their life. I`ve never smelled anything that smelled like that. And I have plenty of experience at the wrong end of a pitchfork (cow, horse, chicken, and hog). Glad I had the drop-in that day. Those of you claiming to not use ANYTHING in your tank must have a better system than I. Calgon, take me away!!!!

After going through poor dumping even with the Flush King, we have realized that we need to use "LOTS" of water while accomplishing normal flushing. DO NOT let a mound develop at the base of the toilet outlet. If you do, even the Flush King will have problems getting rid of it. You don't need to ask me how I know
Also, we have found that using some sort of chemical additive will help keep the odors down. We just happened to have that problem on our first trip and purchased Thedford Supreme Green at the campground store. It worked very well in keeping the odors down and later in helping with the dumping. To go along with this, shut off the bathroom fan before flushing. That keeps from sucking the odors up out of the black tank.
And lastly, after your last dump and flushing before moving on down the road, somehow get about a gallon or two of water back into your black tank (I use the Flush King) and add your chemicals/GEO stuff/whatever and let them slosh around while out on the road. Makes a big difference later.

The FKing comes with a cut off to prevent backflow. BUT...we always use a different hose for this. NEVER use the good water hose as acccidents could happen. 2 hoses needed.

I do not use any treatments in the holding tank and there is no smell from the toilet. It's just a guess on my part, but maybe your vent pipe is to far down in the tank and not doing it's job.
