my suggestion would be to ask this in the Roads and Routes Forum to solicit a wider audience.

I am in Cody now take US 16 at Buffalo west that is the safest. There are some 6% grades and one hair pin turn going down to Grey Bull. Just take it easy and use your low gears I was in second a couple of times it kept my speed down going down hill. Don't worry about the cars behind you. Will be coming back that way on Tuesday, On the way to MN for the FMCA international convention.

Unless you want to avoid the mountains altogether then take 90 north into MT I have not traveled that route but there are other threads that tell about it.

The EASIEST route?

Stay on I90 to just west of Billings Mt. Then at a small town named "Laurel"...head south on US310 till you intersect US-14 ALT and turn west right into Cody

and get a copy of Mountain Directory West to help you avoid `passes' and switchbacks and steep grades.
Makes one appreciate what the pioneers accomplished with horses/mules and wagons heading west.

Thank you all for your input! It is truly appreciated. We made it to Cody and are having a great time. It is so nice to have a place to go online and have such "expert" advice from you that have done.
Sincerely, Grltaz
