I am looking at a new Wolf pack 30WP toy hauler. It states that it weighs 8100 lbs empty. I have never had a trailer of any kind to pull and need any advice. I want a generator, and most of the options. I will be hauling a 03 Harley Road King. I have the Class V hitch already on my truck and a Prodigy electric brake control. Any help would be appreciated...Mark

you will not have a problem towing the 30' Wolfepack with a Chevy 2500HD. I am towing a 38.5 Fleetwood Gearbox and its 11,200 lbs.

OK.. found the manufacture site...
http://www.forestriverinc.com/nd/default22.asp?page=floorview&model=30WP&choice=cher&nav=rec&name=3&series=WolfTTrailers
11532 pound GVRW so assuming 15 % on the tongue (unusually high number) that would be about 1700 pounds...add to that some passengers, fuel and additional cargo in the box of your truck... your at 2000 to 2500 pounds ... 500 to 750 pounds over the rated limit of the truck, for me is peanuts.. I'd do it without giving it any thought...a thousand pounds over... may be pushing it a little...
should note these numbers represent the extremes, a fully loaded camper... fully loaded truck and very full beer cooler !

we have the same trailer. it has a lot of tongue weight, around 1600# empty. we tow with an f350 dually. does well, but squats the back end. we love the trailer, and have most of the available options. if you have any questions shoot me a line.

Is the 2500hd diesel, 8.1, or 6.0?
The 6.0 would be hurting a bit, but with the others you should be good.

When you say class 5 is it a reece 2 1/2" reciever or does the factory hitch have a v on it? Some ford factory hitches had a V on them but that doen't mean class 5. I'm not familier with other brands. The reese titan tow beast is the only hitch I know of that can handle #1700 toungue weight.
The dealer will tell you anything to make the sale, I learned the hard way, dealer said my jayco had #800 toungue wt, empty I have #1200 with no bat. propane or water, loaded i'm between #1600~#1700. Ask them to weigh the toungue or buy your own, about $115 for a sureline scale.

We have the 6.0, 4.10 gasser crew cab, HD, truck camper pkg, 2005, which pulls our new FR 295'er toyhauler. Fiver weighs 8100 unloaded, and 1200 hitch wt. Only change I would make would be to go with a 8.1 big block engine for more 'just in case' power. No squatting under load, and 4.10 gives good startup acceleration. It will do for now!

finally got my new truck out for a drive with my 30 footer... I took it down to the scales and weighed in... 6010 pounds loaded.. towed well, I knew it was back there but was very light work for the 6.0L..another 2 to 3 thousand pounds may be "do-able" but your truck will be working reasonably hard...
