It's so quiet on this board that I think I just heard an adverb drop! Perhaps the current heatwave has caused everyone to forget that in just a few months many of us will be free and on the road again.

So--Given that expensive fuel is a reality, where are y'all Winter Texans going and how long are you planning to stay? Have any good deals surfaced from worried rv park owners in the valley?

As for us, we will stay in the deep valley during December and January and then migrate north gradually, mostly using state parks.

We plan to be in Mission Texas from Nov. to mid April. We have so much fun there
it would be awful boring spending the Winter in MN.

We will save quite a bit on home heating costs & elect. cable, phone & garbage pickup so that will make up for the extra fuel costs.

Hey is it time to go yet?

We will be in Donna Texas in the Rio Grande Valley. Not sure when we will arrive but we will probably be there at least 5 months possibly 6.

We are now leasing our lot by the year so we might as well get on down there and start having fun with our friends.

Looking forward to seeing our old and soon to be new friends.

We will be in the Valley from November to March maybe April. I expect we will see more Park models being sold this year. Anyone else care to speculate. We look forward to going back and have been reevaluating what to take. Last year we didn't take enough jackets or long sleeve shirts and we took too many lawn chairs.

We are in the process of finding a suitable RV resort...The dog seems to think she has a say in the choice...We now have a three way discussion.

As well she should.

All of the Parks we have seen have been very doggie friendly. We no longer have one but we do carry doggie treats. Of course we ask permission before offering one.

We plan to be in Donna, TX, too - leave the weekend after Thanksgiving - return mid-end of March. Only got to spend one month there last year - hope to make up for it this season. As Pawat said - the fuel will be more, but it is at least partially offset by not having to pay the higher utilities, etc., at home.

We may get into Mission early this year! Like August to warm up. We have been in coastal WA & OR since the end of May and it has been cool about 60 + - 5 most times. That Texas warmth sounds good. Looking forward to good friends and the food also!

So how do you pick a place to stay for the winter? We're in Canyon Lake, but I don't know if that's far enough south. To be honest, I'm not too fond of being that close to the border...is it dangerous? What places are good to stay (that are fun) but reasonably priced? Also, what's a reasonable price to pay and is it too early to reserve? Thanks for all input.

The best way to find a place to stay is come on down & get a place for a few days or a week & visit as many parks as possible to find one you like.

Is if safe? Yes it is as safe or safer than any other place as long as you are not involved in the drug trade. Crime against Winter Texans is almost nonexistent except for petty theft. If it has value lock it up.

Prices range from about $200. a month to $600. + Electric.

Not sure which Canyon Lake you mean. Canyon Lake RV Park is in Mission & another Canyon Lake north of San Antonio. North of San Antonio gets frost occasionally. The lower Rio Grande Valley seldom does.

Reservations have not been needed the past 4 Winters unless you want a particular site or want to be in one of the top rated parks. There are nearly 800 parks in the Rio Grande Valley.
