Hi Linda,
We have gone to the RGV for a few years now. Maybe 8 I don't remember. I have never not felt safe. The first thing I noticed when we started going to the RGV was all of the "Adult Daycares". I have since learned that the Hispanics are so caring and respectful of the elderly. They really take care of their older Family members. They are very Family oriented. So in answer to your question yes we feel quite safe.

We have stayed in several parks in the Valley. This will be our 4th year at Victoria Palms in Donna. Every park we stayed in was friendly. When we came to Victoria Palms the people next to us became good friends and we just kind of bonded right away. It was also their first year at this Park. They have been to our home several times since then and we have been to their home in Ontario. Our circle of friends has grown and theirs has also and we are all very close and always welcome new people into the "circle". For some reason our closest friendships have been made during the Winter. I guess it is because we all have so much in common and we do spend several months like children playing together everyday.

There are so many parks in the Rio Grande Valley. You just have to come down and visit several until you find the one that feels like "home" to you.

I don't think the majority come down until after Thanksgiving. That's when the parks start getting full.

You will not have a problem finding a site. Like Pawatt said the "best spots" are usually reserved early. Then again who knows what this year will be like.

I suspect the Snowbirds will continue to fly south.

You can come anytime & find a place but the earlier you come the better your chances of getting some really nice sites.

The majority of parks don't start a full activity schedule until Dec. 1. A lot of people don't come down until just after Christmas but we like coming early Nov.

Hello DonP and Mary. If you go to Texas in August you will probably warm up pretty fast. You mentioned the food in the RGV and I had just said to Paul tonight we hadn't had a good burger like Gozales fixes since we left the RGV. He says we'll have to go more often this winter.

We started our training for the Valley by having a margarita on our deck in really hot temperatures. Five more months to wait for us.

We will leave the north for the RGV in late September, early October. As per usual, we will head south to Baton Rouge to check in with Terry's cousin and wife. Never got to see them when we were working, so now we get to spend time with them coming/going to Texas. It's great!

Once we get to Texas, we will be on lot 324, Birch Street, Restful Valley Ranch (no, it is NOT a cemetery, just sounds like one). We are putting a canopy up this year to shield Phaeton Place from the sun, which is hot even during the winter months. We plan on staying at least through February. . . not so much due to fuel costs as the fact that my parents will be there and they are getting older and we like to be close.

I know we will be making a side trip to Big Bend. . . any other takers? And of course, SPI.

In answer to ladymc53, south Texas is the warmest weather we have found in the winter. Arizona can be downright COLD, although I still love it. Florida was warm last winter, but there was a lot more rain and bugs. Still nice, though.

Come on down! No need for reservations. Sleepy Valley, next to us, is a Passport park, always vacancies and you can use that as a base to explore other parks and see what you like best.
