That's one of the best descriptions of snowbirding that I have read! It's so true.

We started our training for the Valley by having a margarita on our deck in really hot temperatures. Five more months to wait for us.

My kind of training.

Hey, I just tried a glass of iced tea with spearmint scnapps in it. Pretty darn good! Actually, we're in mosquito country so I'm ready to leave for the Valley now. Well, I guess we're not going until Oct. but we will be in Hidden Valley Ranch, anyone within our area stop by.

What all do we do you ask...

Ride our bicycles, hang out at the pool, walk, take classes such as computer, crafts, sewing, cards, woodworking, how to do or make various stuff, go to the hot tub, play tennis, visit friends, go to Mexico for the day or a few days on a tour, site see, go to South Padre Island and walk the beach, fish, shop or just sit and people watch, go out to eat, take dance lessons, go dancing (you may either dance or watch others.. either way is usually pretty entertaining), relax in your lounge chair and watch friends walk by (you may either look like you are asleep or deep into a book and no one will bother you or you may look up and smile and they will usually stop for a chat), lots of entertainers come into the various parks which you can see for just a few dollars, have Happy Hour and appetizers with friends (no one cares what you are drinking.... it is about the friendship part), go out to eat, watch the beautiful Parrots and also so many other birds, birding is really big, cook together or invite friends over to eat, just hang out with your friends and laugh until your sides hurt. I am sure I have left out many things. Those are just a few ideas of what is happening.

BTW I think you will find there is more talk of drinking than actual alcohol consumed or maybe not. Either way no one cares if someone does or doesn't. Many cannot drink alcohol due to medication they are taking. It is really a personal preference and to each his own.

What Shirley said, except we do it in Florida (so we don't go to Mexico for a little day trip )
Most snowbird destinations have more things offered than you can fit into a day. You can do them or not do them. We find that danger lurks in taking the trash to the dumpster. By the time you talk to people...two hours have passed.
It's just fun. You don't have to drink.

And of course, at least once a week you have to go to RV.net and enter the forum to see what all your new friends are up to. This forum is a riot to read during the snowbird season. After reading all the posts, you just can't wait to put faces with the names. Will we be doing that this year in the RGV, Shirley? Maybe at Victoria Palms? Just wait until you meet Shirley & Ron, Pawatt, Mo Rambler and so many others. And for the newbies that will be down in Texas, don't forget to pick up your weekly copy of The Winter Texan to see what's happening in all the parks. If you don't like the activities in your park today, try another park. Chances are you'll be running into other RV.netters. We'll be driving into Mission the first of December. See ya there!

There are also many volunteer activities to get involved in. Mabel's clinic in Progresso is a favorite charity of many of the park's. Projects include constructing houses, making quilts, tutoring school children, etc. There are also many physical activities like shuffleboard, golfing, horseshoes and more card games than you can imagine. There are inter park competitions and golden age Olympics. If you can't find activities that interest you, you just didn't look. There is not enough time in a day to do all the stuff that is offered. If you know someone that is a park that is a good place to start, but is not necessary. I agree with the suggestion to come on down, stay a while in several parks and see what they have to offer. The RGV visitors guide has a park directory that should have most of the parks in them with a brief description of the park, the size, the amenities, and the activities. This will be our 6th year. We are in a mid size park (about 375 units, combo of mobiles, park models and RVs) with a ton of activities and we love it.
