Hi, Sister in-law has a 90 Bounder they got last year, one of its million's of problems is with it running and you pull the yellow parking brake it blows all the oil out the top of the reservoir for the power steering and the pump growls as it blows the oil all over. It will empty the tank in about 2 seconds. Anyone have a idea what is wrong? This motor home has been cobbled up so bad before they got it I probably have a month of work to make it decent again. It has hydraulic boosted brakes also.

it has hydraulic boosted brakes with a air parking brake sounds like something is hooked up wrong someplace .dont think i ever seen one set up like that.

Air works the parking brake? I didn't know that. Then it must be blowing the air into the hydraulic system. That would make sense the way it blows the oil all over.

I think its a Chevy P3 16,000 GVW. Does that sound right? I don't know the wheel base or length of it off hand.

i dont know for sure if it has a air parking brake you said the yellow button for the parking brake and thats what air brakes have for a parking brake valve.it may or may not be air.if its a p-30 it must be chevy is it a diesel or gas.gas doesnt have air.

Its a 454 gas engine. I found a chassis manual in the big bag of books inside the motor home. From the little I was reading it looks like the 1990 brake system was a one year only thing, 91 to 93 is different. It looks like the trans don't have park in it, there is a valve on the shift linkage that applies the parking brake when the shift lever is in park. It also looks like some of them had the parking brake on the end of the trans, not at the rear wheels. It also says the parking brake is on all the time under spring pressure and the hydraulic system releases the brake? He said when it was way low on power steering fluid he couldn't move it because a brake was holding it, which goes along with what I was reading in the manual, so it must be working, but why it blows all the oil out of the tank with allot of pressure when the parking brake is pulled with the engine running I don't understand yet.
There are allot of things on this motor home I don't understand why they are built like they are. Worst part is the wiring is all messed up, and it has more wires in it than our house I think LOL. The owner got hold of the company that built it and they sent all the wire diagrams they had for the thing, so maybe I can figure out some of that mess.

It is being overfilled? It needs to be checked WITHOUT being in Park the best I remember. There may be a bleeding issue but it has been a while since reading about the Auto Park since I learned my 1992 chassis was only rated at 14,800 lb so I have the pawl and no Auto Park.

Sounds like auto park...and a bad ....rotten green switch to me. Probably ruptured as they are noted for...accounting for the rapid fluid loss.

Message from oldusedbear today.
Tropical36 that hit my mind until I reread it was a 1990 and it was blowing it out the power steering. The rotten green switch issue came later (1994?) when Auto Park got its on pump.
Blowing out the oil may or may not be a huge issue.
