Looking for a campground in the NY Finger Lake region around lake Seneca or cayuga lake. We saw a couple campground online( Cheerful Valley and Junius pond)and wondering if anyone has any advise. We will be using this as a base camp while we tour the wineries around these two lakes.

we stayed at Cheerful Valley a couple of years back..

Check out my NY trip report

http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/18089724.cfm

There is some other info about the area that might be useful to you. I wish we had stayed a few more days in the area. Really wish we would have gotten to the Watkins Glen area.

The visit to Taughannock Falls, near Ithaca is something my kids still talk about.

Bryan,

Thanks for your NY trip info. We have heard that the highway sound is pretty loud at Cheerful Valley.... did it bother you and your family? Just wanted to say I have a friend who has taken me to the FlyCreek Cider Mill and I love it too!

I don't remember hearing it. Been a couple of years back, but don't recall it being an issue. the CG is well surrounded by trees...

The only downside I remember was the condition of the main access road into the CG...

We are going to Sampson State park on Seneca, leaving Wednesday....we chose Sampson over Watkins Glen because I wanted a waterfront site, and we are taking our rowboat...I will let you know how it is

Save yer money and go to sampson state park. When we're up north in NYS thats where we stay. Site 120 or 123 are shaded and about 300 feet to the lake. Right on the Finger Lakes Wine Trail.

We are headed up sometime next week. We plan to attend the wine festival and do some motorcycle riding before the festival. We are staying at the Watkins Glen Koa. It suppose to be as good a place as any for a big rig.

We stayed at Sampson State Park last month. Roomy sites, electric hookups, very clean facilities. We stayed in loop 5 which has some sites along the lake. 222 is best site. We will stay there again if we are up in the area.
