My brothers and I grew up in a carseat bouncing along jeep trails. As soon as we could walk we were on ATCs riding in the sand. We started off with a folding trailer and eventually worked up to a motorhome.
Most of my childhood memories are centered around camping. I still think we went camping every week, but my Mom insists that is was about once a month, maybe more in the summer.
Every holiday was spent at the dunes, in the desert, at the beach, or in the mountains. To this day I have had very few Thanksgiving dinners eaten off fine china--it's usually camping, paper plates.
This, along with Girl Scouts and my Aunt introducing us to backpacking as toddlers sparked my interest in all things outdoors. I finally bought my own backpacking gear and motorhome and go "camping" every chance I get.

That brings back a memory.
When our first child was born (DD), 30 days later we went shopping for a 4x4 small pickup that got at least 20 mpg and that the infant carrier would fit in. We bought a 1981 Datsun truck. I had to build a platform over the top of the small hump in the back (extended cab). Born in November and she was wheeling in the Spring. Eventually, she learned to drive a stick on that truck. It finally died her senior year in high school.

We never camped when I was young. When my son was in Cubscouts, we had a camping outing which I enjoyed. About 5 or 6 years ago, my dad bought a slide on, I spent a night or 2 with him in Disney and had fun. The he bought the fifth wheel, spent a few trips with him in that, and realized there was one thing that made the camping less enjoyable, my sister and her family also stay with him on occassion and lets just say there were problems. That is what certainly moved us to start our own camping and our first campter was our hybrid last year.
We used to camp with the whole family when we were young (aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.). Iremember those days fondly and would like my children to experience that also.
Been camping for as long as I can remember with parents up until I was sixteen. Money was tight for my family so it was the only way we could afford to go anywhere. I hated setting up the Coleman popup we had and it was small and cramped for the 6 of us that went camping.
Flash forward to a little over 2 years ago and I was sitting out in our back yard looking up at the sky and I was thinking I missed seeing all the stars that were visible when i was younger. Then I remembered that I could see the best star-filled skys when camping. Also started to remember the only thing I hated about camping was the stupid pop-up. Talked my wife into renting a cabin, took the parents and other relatives and had a blast even though it rained all weekend. We had so much fun we bought our now gone Jayfeather 19h the following weekend at the RV show. Now we camp about 30 days a year.
