This weekend we are heading out by ourselves, no kids this will be the first time alone. we have talked about owning a RV since we were young about 28 years ago. Finally got one 3 years ago and have gone with our kids. They are older and Mom and Dad just want to try it. Tell me is it selfish or bold? Also does the food taste better with no teenagers picking at it? Just wondering.

Selfish or bold ? I wouldn't call it that. I'd call it well deserved quality time.
Hope you have a great camping trip!

Two only occasionally is good. The wisdom of life is keeping the balance. I know several people that complained about too many family tasks and when the family left and didn't feel like keeping close contact, they found out that being lonely in retirement is not fun at all.

Our kids quit camping with us about 6 years ago when the oldest was 16 and started working a job. Our daughter was 15 and she quit going to. Yes, it kind of makes you feel guilty ... until after the first trip without them is over! THEN YOU REALLY DON'T WANT THEM ANY MORE AT ALL WITH YOU AND THE GUILT IS GONE!
My daughter, now 21, went camping with us 3 week ends ago. We did a 3 hour canoe trip together and I was thrilled to death to have her come along! And amazing, she enjoyed it too! Although she did make comments that a TT with all the luxuries of a grand hotel is just not the same as tent or pop-up camping! But she did say it was really nice not sleeping on the ground!

We certainly enjoy having our grandchildren with us, whenever we camp in our fiver. But we very much enjoy traveling just her and me. It's a lot dofferent. Not less fun, just different. And very enjoyable. We get to do what we want. Get more time to meet others. Go where WE want to. And much less worrying or hassle trying to keep track of them. Not to mention the clean up, cooking, dishes are much less. And we get time to be with each other. A special time for us to be together. Maybe just watching a movie, that the kids think is BORING.

I say enjoy every minute of it. We camped for 16 years with the kids and now that it's just the DW and myself.....well, lets just say it's enjoyable in a much different way. And by the way the food does taste much better......there's actually food to be eaten! Hope you have great times and make many new memories.

We didn't even get an rv until our kids were grown. It was a while before we invited any of them to go with us and then it was just the grandson.

oh....that's one of the things we miss the most....I can't tell you what I'd give to have trips with just DH and I.... Since Mom had her stroke and has to have constant care, we moved her in with us and now she's with me always. DH and I went from almost all our time together in the past several years with the kids grown and gone (and loved every minute of it) to almost no time alone at all. Enjoy every minute you have together.....remember...the two of you together is what started all that "family stuff". LOL ;> Enjoy.........enjoy........enjoy..........
