After thinking about it for a long time I finally ordered a Motion Pro twist throttle for my Z 400. I've heard the argument that when you hit a bump it tends to rev up where a thumb throttle won't, but wouldn't a motorcycle rev up too? I've never heard anyone complain about that.
My thumb throttle causes me so much pain sometimes that I have to stop riding (arthritis).
If you've made the switch let me know what you think.

A neighbor had a twist set up on a quad for a disabled child. Another neighbor was over and went for a ride.
On a very steep uphill she got the throttle cracked open and didn't let go because that was what she was hanging onto, the quad came over on her and she ended up with a broken back.
If you decide to change, make sure anyone who rides it fully understands the risk, including that precious granddaughter.

My BIL just put a combo throttle on their quads...my nieces and sister got thumb cramps. You can switch from twist to thumb on the fly without tools, all you do is flick a little lever.
Might be a good solution for you.

I would put on a thumb extender before going twist. The accident that Ramblen described is exactly they they don't recommend them.

I went to a twist on my DS 650 after changing to a tm 45 Carb...Loved it no problems I have ridden dirt bikes and road bike most of my life it just felt natural to me...I don't mind the thumb and for most that may be the way to go but I left plenty of play in the throttle cable on the twist it preformed flawlessly...thumb felt better to.

I switched mine over to a twist due to the fact that I have carpal tunnel. My thumb would get so numb that I couldn't even feel the thumb throttle. It did take some getting used to but now love it. All of the quads in sig have a twist on them. I have two daughters (18 & 11) and they both picked up on it quick.

I hate thumb throtles on long rides esp. Twists are the first mod I do. I put one on my wifes Z 400 and it seems almost to easy to twist, but I can't figure out a way to make it stiffer.
Lord, grant me the senility to not recognize the people I don't like, the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference

If you ride two wheelers also a twist is the only way to go, I have 3 YFZ's all w/ twists, I installed the WR cable assy, That way it's a push-pull system, I rode desert for most of my life, but for the last 4 years I've been on quads, (family likes them better).
I say give it a try and if you don't feel comfortable change back.

I've had both But I have no problem with a thumb throttle and kind of prefer it on an ATV. I think the problems with bumps they talk about is the side to side jolt you can get on an ATV from a dip or bump on one side. this wouldn't happen on a bike. The only time I had trouble with the twist on my quad was in unexpected rough spots. I switched back to a thumb throttle on the Quadzilla I had because a quick rap on the throttle would loop you.
I do know Motion Pro is supposed to be the best and they sell a lot of them.

I will never go back to a twist throttle. I have the Motion Pro on my 400ex and love it. It it much easier to shift, smoother accerlation and a must for long rides.
