Just got back from camping for 4 days with the new Yamaha generator. We left out as soon as the yamaha came in on Tuesday. Picked up some oil on the way to the lake and serviced it up right there in camp, it fired up the first pull and ran flawlessly the entire time(we were way out in the sticks...no other campers with in a mile or so from us) only shutting down to refuel the tank. During the days it was in the upper 90's so the Coleman Mach 3(13,500BTU) AC compressor rarely kicked off, but as the evening and night came on and temps dropped it would kick in and out periodically. The second night I topped the tank off at 10:00pm and at 7:13am the next morning it ran out of fuel, that's alittle over 9 hours of run time with the AC on high on a tank(1.6 gal) of gas. Pretty impressed with this little generator. During the day it would run my ac, lights, CD player and water pump all at about 3/4 throttle, at night when the compressor would kick off, the generator would go silent(smart throttle)...I have always had contractor grade generators, so this is my first...high end...quality genny...and I'm love'n it, you can stand right over it and still carry on a normal conversation. Just wanted to chime in a let everyone know how pleased I am with the Yamaha EF2400IS Genny!! Thanks for all the info.
PS. I did install the SPP6 before the gen arrived....don't know if I needed it....just alittle precaution!!
Spp6 is the hard start kit. I installed it on mine and it really made a huge difference. Before I installed it, I couldn't start the A/C with just the generator only.
As to price, I paid 1092.00 delivered to my house in West LA. Wise Sales. Tell them you want the Ebay site price but are having difficulties with Ebay and they will take the information from you on the phone. They save 4% so it's to their advantage anyway. I bought mine 15 months ago, so it might be a bit higher.
As to whether I'd go twin honda's or a single yamaha, right now, I'm good with the single yamaha. I ran my AC for 9 hours and idled for 2 hours, plus and I still had some gas left.
The honda's have some technical advantages. They do have a vacuum fuel pump. If you want to run your Yamaha, gravity feed is the only option. Honda, will suck the fuel into the units directly. That's a big advantage, though not a difficult mod for the Yamaha or just installing a fuel pump with a low pressure output (e.g. .5 lb or 1 lb). It's still the only long duration solution without another pump or system to concern yourself over.
Shott...I have owned my 2400 for 4 seasons now, and I would not trade it for anything else...just returned from Sequoia National Forest, 5 days at 6,400ft, and to my surprise I was able to run my A/C when needed with outside temps in the low 80's, charged batterie's etc, any how have fun with your new purchase.
Love mine also. I was able to run the AC at 8000', but not much else. When we didn't need the AC, it ran everything else just fine. Just a solid, quality unit.
Thanks guys, yep really going to enjoy having this one around!! I got it from Wise Sales thru their ebay store...had it for like $1070 but I had a 10% or up to $100 discount on my next purchase from Ebay...so got it for $970 to the door....cheap enough!!
