Hello all-- My first Post.

I have a 1991 Class C and it has the common onan 4000 bge Emerald Model.

If I put 12 volts to the coil and the fuel pump it will run fine but will not run without. It is full of oil, and it has 3/4 tank of fuel.

What things should I look at to figure this out? I have a buddy that's been helping me and he knows what he's doing. I don't have a service manual yet so I have no wiring diagram for the board. I have saw a few posts today from others with this issue and hope some of that info will help but what do you guys think about my situation?

How do I know if the low oil sensor is working? Can I disconnect it? Shuould I or should I not have AC power in the Motorhome while I run 12 volts straight to the coil and fuel pump?

Hopefully someone can help me out.

Much appreciated.

If you are sure you have the proper level of oil in the crankcase you can bypass the low oil sensor to see if the gen continues to run. Don't let it run too long though. You should not have to worry about have AC connected or not. With that old of an RV you probably have to plug the cord into an outlet in the cable bay for the generator to supply AC to the rv.

First see if you have AC output. If not look on the gen end for a black cover. The brushes are under this cover. If they are not making contact with the slip rings you will have no voltage output. You can pull on the brush wires just enough to move them. No voltage will stop the engine. If you do need a regulator I would give flight systems a call. They repair and build boards, better than the factory.

From the info I have recieved aso far everything leads to the volt regulator or the board. I want to send them out to flight systems to at least test and hopefully repeir or replace. Anyone know what the usual turnaround time is?

Also the full serial number and model is 4bgefa26100f

and ser #e890235970

thanks for the replies so far and I will keep all informed of what we found and did at the end.

After you check all the cheap stuff, oil level switch, etc, check out the voltage regulator (the expensive stuff) and or the #307-1886 relay in the control box. (cheap stuff) I Don't remember the relay wiring diagram number. The voltage regulator is part #305-0809-01.
These are old numbers now and may not still be in use. The board usually does not cause this problem. Normally it is the voltage regulator and of course it is 225.00 to 275.00 bucks. Anyhow check these numbers. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I think now it is the volt regulator and it is being sent to flight systems for test or replacement.

Voltage regulator for an Onan BGE spec F should be part #305-0782. Control board is part #300-3056.

Be an excelltent idea to do the trouble shooting and fix whats wrong. Could get real expensive by throwing parts at it.
