My dandy new ScanGauge wakes up every 5 minutes or so - - Stays that way for maybe 15 seconds, and then snoozes off again.

Do they all do that or is mine just a poor sleeper?

Haven't driven the rig since installation.

The reason for spelling is so that all of the words don't look the same.

Mine sometimes does that - takes a reset to get it going again. Ignition off and back on again usually does it - so does unplugging the data cable and then plugging it back in. My ScanGauge is happiest when the engine is running - because that way there's a computer for it to actually monitor.

Mine does the same thing when the trickle charger is hooked up. Shut it off and Scangauge stays off. But I do not know why.

That's interesting about the trickle charger. I DO have one running on the chassis battery. Many thanks - - will check it out and report back.

I believe they are designed to timeout if the engine is not running to save on battery. Mine will come on as soon as I hook it up, push any button or supply power to it (plug it in) without the engine running. Mine stays on all the time once the engine is running. I do not have my manual at home to check to see if it is stated as to what to expect.

Even if it does come on it draws about as much power as the memory circuit in your radio. It is not going to drain a battery unless you don't drive the rig for a year.

I talked to Scangauge about that quite some time back.
The way it comes out of sleep mode is when a senses small increase (a couple of hundred mili-volts as I recall) in the dc voltage it sees on the OBD connector. I have a BatteryMinder connected to the engine battery that causes mine to wake up when it bumps the float voltage up from time to time.

Any device that causes a change in the voltage will cause it to wake up.

Do you have anything plugged in to the cigar lighter? That is where most OBDs get there power from, so if you have something plugged in that is pulling voltage it could be making the ScanGauge think the OBD is trying to talk with it.

This does not happen with mine. I have it loose connectivity while driving for some reason, but only once so I think it may have been loosely plugged in.

My experience with it is exactly as Clay L states. If something "bumps" the battery voltage it'll wake up, look around, and then go back to sleep.

I unplugged my dribble charger. The ScanGauge has been snoring ever since!

Thanks for the good input from everybody.
