3 cyl. Onan diesel generator in Class A motorhome. Has 770 hours.
New oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter. Cooling system flushed and refilled per specs. Coolant system bleed of all air and water pump belt replaced because it broke. Coolant circulation appears normal but have no way to measure flow.
Shuts down due to overheating in about 5 minutes with heavy load.
Note; we use this diesel pusher at "the dunes" in AZ and CA and need the AC's to work. This is the 1st time we've had any problem.
We are considering add on electric radiator fan.
Note; ambient temps. are running 110deg.F to 120deg.F.
What experience or advice is out there?
Thanks.

I have that same genset so am interested in the thread. We have about a thousand hours on ours and have only changed fuel filter once, oil and filter every 150 hours. Coolant still in spec the last time I looked.
Did it used to work ok in this heat before the new belt?
And do you get a code?

Check the oil level and make sure you didn't over fill it.
Overfilling can cause the oil to foam up which causes lack of cooling and proper lube.

I place my bet with dons2346. too much oil or sometime the brand of oil is usually the cause of a quick shutdown like this. I have never seen an Onan diesel overheat, I think if it did it would be quite a bit longer than 5 minutes on a diesel.

I had a similar problem and it was a board, I could actually put ice on it to get it runing again. Gunny was a big help on line here solving the problem. Do a advanced search to get similar issues.

Model/spec/serial number will help, then we'll see what you see.
How do you know it overheats? Boils over? Shuts down and displays a fault code?
Belt broke. Tell us more about that.
Any exhaust smoke when running?

Worked fine for 2 summers. No problems. Yes, it shuts itself down and sets a code 33. Will recheck the oil. Really don't know why the belt broke. Didn't catch it until it fell out the bottom. Water pump turns freely by hand.
Possible T-stat problem?
What do you think of add-on electric radiator cooling fan?

Possible air lock in the cooling system.
How bad did it overheat the first time? Any chnace it warped the head and blew the head gasket? That was the reasoning for the question concerning the exhaust smoke.
Sholdn't need an additional fan. for cooling. Mine did fine in 115 degree heat running basement air with both compressors running.
Don't have the manual close to hand. What is the verbage for a code 33?
