Just curious if anyone has any experience with one of these?
I carry my smoker with me at all times, but sometimes want to do a turkey without smoke, as in a Thanksgiving bird, use the drippings for the Giblet gravy, etc. and my oven isn't big enough to do a big turkey.
Thanks!

Mine is very similiar. I've cooked large hams, roasts, pizza and appetizers on mine without the water pan and smoke. It reaches 400 degrees and then some with no problem.

Thanks Super Dave!
I was eyeballing that setup at Cabela's and almost bought one, but the WSM won out...Then the first Thanksgiving I couldn't roast a turkey in my oven because it was too small I was a bit miffed.
I love a smoked turkey, but for Thanksgiving and Christmas, I want a traditional roast turkey, so I can use the drippings for gravy.
I bought a Big Easy for this reason, and it works superbly for birds, but the amount of space my cooking appliances are taking up is getting ridiculous, so I left it in storage.
I figure getting an afterburner setup for my WSM would cover all of the bases.

I have an afterburner to go with my "El Cheapo Brinkman" Makes that poor quality smoker sit up and beg. Ribs, brisket, chicken, all turn out great.
Don't pack it in the Trailer though. I smoke stuff at home and then vacuum pack it and take it with me in the freezer. Unwrap, thaw, and grill to get a bit of char and bake the sauce on... OK, now I'm getting hungry.
The afterburner is decent quality. looks like it's made from an oil changing pan. Has held up fine for me.
I'd get another if this one gave out.

The price of the afterburner looks a little steep. I converted an old electric smoker to gas with one of these, if you are handy. The burner and an orafice was all I needed at about $20 inc. shipping.

Thanks Super...You know, after posting this, I thought adapting my turkey-fryer burner to fit the smoker...the way it is setup won't work, because the rubber hose would be inside the grill, but I'm sure I can go to a propane supply place and fab a longer metal stem.
Would be especially cool if I could get the right diameter to run it through one of the bottom air vents and not have to cut a hole in the smoker.

You don't even need to do that. The thread on the back of the burner is 1/4" mip. All you need to do is go down to ACE Hardware and get a 1/4" pipe nipple.

Thanks again for the help Super...but the last time I went wandering around town looking for pipe-nipples, I spent 24 hours in jail!
OK...crap joke I know, but it made me giggle...
Anyway...what exactly am I looking for when I go to ACE so I don't get the wrong thing?
Thanks!
...you know, as always, I'm over-analyzing, I should just take the burner with me to make sure I get the right thing...but this info might help others if you have time to post the info...

MCranky, can I see a picture of what you are starting with?
First picture is the end of the burner and is a 1/4" male iron pipe thread:

Top view of my converted electric:

The burner requires an orifice that costs under $3.00 and can ne purchased at bbq stores or the site I provided a link to.
The flared end of the orifice matches the end of the propane hose coming from the tank.
If it is imposssible to get the end of the burner outside the box, a threaded 1/4" black pipe nipple and coupling should extend the hose connection point for you.

I use mine all the time and it works great. I have one for the Brinkman Gourmet water smoker and then I have one for an offset wood smoker. I like the constant temperature and instant heat. Just put a log in an old juice can and start smokin.
