We are having trouble with the rubber trim that is in a metal track that runs along the bottom edge of the cabover and then down the side of motorhome at the corner where the side wall meets the wall that comes out at the back the cab.

The problem is the rubber trim keeps coming out of the track on the highway. Several inches of the rubber trim always sticks out at the sharp radius where the cabover meets the side wall. It is easy to re-install when it is hot outside but as the air cools overnight the rubber trim pulls out of the metal track right at the sharp radius for several inches as the rubber contracts with the dropping temps.

It is just this several inch exposed section that gets caught in the high winds on the highway and quickly pulls the entire length of rubber trim edging all the way out of the metal track, requiring us to make an emergency stop to reinstall the edging. This has happened three times in the past year.

Does anyone have a solution to keeping this rubber trim in the track permanently?

yup had the same thing.I found out that there is a wider size you can replace it with and it will not come off.Mine was under warranty and it was covered. Mine also blew off on the freeway and I had about 6inches on both ends hanging on,I had to rip off the rest to keep rolling down the road..

I had the same problem so I put a couple of small blobs of caulking on the edge of the rubber piece near the where it separates first. Problem solved and I used very little caulking so I can remove easily if need be.

I've had this happen on both sides, a couple of years apart.
I removed the entire length of rubber, caulked the inside edges of the metal channel, and reinserted the rubber.

You can also put a screw in right in the curve. Our 07 Itasca Spirit had this problem, and the 08 model had a screw there. That should work.

I drilled a hole in the center of the track through the plastic molding and installed a stainless steel self tapping screw to hold it in place. Never had a problem after that.

The "screw" solution sounds good but I am concerned that the pressure from the contracting rubber, when the temps cool, will pull hard enough on it at the screw location (center of the trim radius)that it could pull the rubber trim right over the screw head.

I realize a larger head screw would help prevent that or maybe even using a washer under the head but......

Maybe the pressure on the rubber trim isn't as great as I imagine.

I had the same problem.

The root cause seemed to be that is was stretched too tight.

I detached the bottom so that it would not be stretched so tight, and after that all is good. When I put it back it I made sure to keep it from stretching. It does not come out anymore.

What Westronics said. Ours got to coming out at a curve and it was because the trim was "shrinking" in length. I took enough out to get the tension out and re-fastened with a stainless screw in each end. Our 25-year-old coach was built with miles of this stuff and I'm just not going to replace all of it. Might get a few feet and insert a patch here and there...

God Bless, jd
