The Army Corp of Eng parks also keep some "walkup" spaces. They cannot be reserved, they're available at the CG gate only, and can be used up to 14 consecutive days.

With them two tree climbers, and the fact you like all you listed, google up white water rafting in NC, TN,GA and you will find a lot of rafting places with rv spots, right on the river , not five star , but plenty nice for what you are wanting. Most do not list under rv parks or campgrounds, but they are sure nice.

We are going to Vogel state park, AGAIN, this summer. We will be there last week of July. Last year it was in May!

We did hiking there, and LOTS around the area too as you are at the Appalachian trail. Lots of falls to hike to within the area.

Enjoy,

We leave 7/25 for our BIG 2 week trip!

To me the best GA State Parks that are truly in the mountains are Cloudland Canyon, Fort Mountain, Vogel and Unicoi(and a few others)...but these are the best to me....No offense to previous poster, as Old Federal is one of my very favorite campgrounds that we frequent, but not at all what I consider the mountains.......and yes, it will still be hot in the GA mountains in the summer....but still a fun time.
