For the first time my new husband and I will be going south for the winter... where do you like to go and why? How do you go about making reservations when you have never been there? We are from the midwest, so we have the option of going east, west or south Texas...I have spent many weeks in Arizona in the winter, but never in an RV.. the weather was amazing! We have some brutal winters in Nebraska.. heck.. we've had a brutal spring and summer, so far! This will be a fun adventure for us.. he is retiring in a couple of weeks.. and we will be doing a lot of traveling.. the best way there is.. RVing!

Hi Donna,
Congratulations on all accounts!!

Sounds like you are in for some fun times. If you post this in the Snowbird Forum you will get tons of information on where everyone goes and why.

I will answer that we go to the Rio Grande Valley. We have gone to Florida and we have gone to Arizona both are beautiful States but now we continue to go back to the Rio Grande Valley.

We usually go to Yuma, AZ, because it's sunny all winter and seldom gets below freezing. We love Texas but AZ is closer.

Hi Donna: Last winter was our first year as snowbirds (good winter to get out of the midwest). We spent 5 months in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. We selected an RV park based on the knowledge of posters here on RV.net. We will be going back in October.

We stay right here in No Cal wine country.. We watch the snow pile up (on television news) It does mean getting out the jackets though, sometimes it goes to just below 30 deg at night.

We FINALLY got our season tickets to redskins stadium (Hail to the redskins!). So, when we can afford to get the class C we will spend lots of time in MD. I would like to give Fort Wilderness a try. I am going to make sure to have heated water tanks so we can winter camp. My husband is a landscaper, that means he is off in the winter I teach so summer is my time to camp. The small TT we have now is just not set up for winter----so I wait and enjoy my seasonal site.

We retired last year and spent the winter traveling along the Gulf coast and Arizona. The best source for finding a camground was Woodalls. As far as where to go, ask yourselves what do you like to do? IF you like to fish, bird, watch dolphins, and do beach stuff, go to the Padre Island area, Rockpot, as an earlier poster suggested.

Donna,
If your idea of a winter retreat includes sitting under your awning with your morning coffee, or lounging outside with a book and a beer, and enjoying lots of outdoor activities (in shorts and t-shirts), then Florida is the place to be.
