We spend our winters at home. I think it's the best time of the year in Dana Point. We try to leave in the month of May and part of June for Palm Springs so we can miss the May haze and the June Gloom.
We spent our first two years on the coastal bend of Texas just outside of Corpus Christi. Year one in Port Aransas on Mustang Island, then year two in Rockport. After spending year two reading all the posts from those wintering in the Rio Grande Valley, we decided to give it a try, which was last season. We will be returning to the Valley just after Thanksgiving this year. There is something to keep you busy every day, and the weather is wonderful to just sit and relax with your new friends. Be fair to yourselves and try a few areas out, maybe spending a week or two in one place then moving on. With the current price of gas, you may want to limit yourselves to one state (Florida, Texas, Arizona etc.) but each park offers its' own personality. Whatever you decide, congratulations on your new way of life, and enjoy.
We go to the Rio Grande Valley of Texas in Mission.
We like the friendly people, Locals & Snowbirds
The warm weather
So much to do, Music, entertainment, tours, park activities
Trips to Mexico, Shopping, Dining, Drinking & Dentists
Flea Markets & Farmers Markets
Fresh fruit & produce, almost free
Low cost of living
Nearly 800 RV Parks in the Valley to choose from.
Yuma Az, winter months 60s and 70s , whats not to like? Well maybe the winds that we get quite a bit of. Sprinkled once or twice all winter, 10 or 12 inches
{between the sprinkles}
Our winter preference is Naples, FL - dry, consistent temps in the high 70's/low 80's, rarely windy but often a light balmy Gulf breeze and 95% sunshine. Lots of activities, beaches, golfing, fishing, boating, nearby Everglades. Winter park pix in my sig.
We spent four and one half miserable years in Omaha, living in our rv, and I can tell you without fail.
ANYPLACE SOUTH OF THERE BY 800 MILES will beat the heck out of Omaha in the winter. However, I do recommend the valley over fla and az, as it is a lot cheaper and of course, they are Texans. THAT DOES make a difference. THEY appreciate you.

Why would anybody spend 4 1/2 years in Omaha living in an RV through the winters? Doesn't make sense.
OTOH Omaha is a wonderful place to live through the winters in a home.
We just came back from a week at Offutt AFB while visiting our daughter. Boy you guys have had some weather. We spend our winters in Tucson Az. Voyager RV resort: http://www.voyagerrv.com/.
