I am looking to travel the continuous 48 in the future and I would like your help in the planning. SO, please tell me the best spots in your state that I should NOT MISS. I realize I will have the expected places, but I am looking for some of the more illusive hot spots that you love and would suggest to someone who wants to truly enjoy your home state. I have a list of the states and I look forward to hearing from every one. Game?
for Michigan I would say Mackinaw area and also the west coast. Any one of many cities including Petoskey, Traverse City, Pentwater, Grand Haven and Holland...
KY: Audubon State Park - Henderson. Excellent museum of John James Audubon prints, elephant portfolios, memorabelia, copper plates (for original prints), etc. JJ Audubon owned 2 businesses in Henderson while he painted local birds. Henderson is a small Ohio River town (pop 30K) with a wealth of beautiful older restored 150-200 yr old homes. If you time it right, you can attend a Blues Festival, a spring street festival with lots of good food, a Bluegrass Festival and free concerts every summer Friday night on the riverfront.
Of course, elsewhere in the state there is always Mammoth Cave & Corvette museum in Bowling Green. Ky & Barkley Lakes and the Land Between the Lakes (far western KY), Cumberland Falls in Cumberland State Park (eastern KY), Louisville slugger baseball plant & museum in Louisville, Kentucky Horse Park - an outstanding horse park with museum, current competitions, shows, etc. and an outstanding RV park at Lexington, an original Shaker settlement, Bardstown for "My Old Ky Home" and loads of beautiful scenery all over the state. There is much more in our beautiful state but I will let others add their favorites.
Of course, the Motor Speedway. Don't miss the covered bridges of Brown County in the southern part of the state - - especially nice in the fall. Indiana has lots of nice state parks in which to stay (as do all states, I'm sure!) We're a friendly bunch - you know - - that Hoosier Hospitality thing!
Iowa - Iowa Great Lakes/Okoboji/Arnolds Park, Amana Colonies (really nice Oktoberfest!), Bridges of Madison County, beautiful state parks, Davenport riverfront and shops, Walnut Antique City, RAGBRAI, just to name a few.

Oregon -
Crater Lake - stay at the lovely RV park in Prospect
Mt. Hood area - the quaint and lovely town of Hood River is right on the Columbia River gorge
Honeyman Dunes State Park - right outside Florence, lots to see and do
Maryland - Thurmont, MD area or western Maryland
(nearby is Pennsylvania for day trips to Gettysburg, etc.)
Eastern Shore of Maryland - either a campground on the Chesapeake Bay or oceanside. Ocean City, MD is the hot summer tourist area, but the beaches are wonderful.
