Don't miss Montana. Glacier and Yellowstone are obvious but you won't regret going anywhere in the state.

Well...let's see...California is the home of several things....

You might try camping somewhere in San Bernardino County out near Redlands, Yucaipa or Calimesa, even Banning or Beaumont out on I-10...if you do it during Apple Harvest, there's a great festival up in Oak Glen, up in the mountains east of Yucaipa. There may even be a campground in the area of Yucaipa or Oak Glen, I'll check soon...

Then, up north around San Jose, there's Gilroy, home of the world's Garlic Festival, and in San Jose there's The Winchester House (yes, the shotgun heiress-widow)...it's quite an attraction and tours are daily, there's also Six Flags Great America.

Down south in Orange County (LA County's southeast neighbor) there's a street fair in the Old Town Plaza on Labor Day weekend, with several local groups setting up food booths...it's sort of an all-day eat-fest around the world....parking is "problematic" and you buy the food items, but admission to the area is free. There are several campgrounds nearby, 3 or 4 in Anaheim, you can take in the Disneyland Resort for 3 or 4 days (if you plan, you can cover both parks in 2 days), or 2 or 3 in or near Huntington Beach, you can camp near the beach (electric and water, dump is nearby) at Bolsa Chica State Beach CG, at Huntington State Beach CG just 1-2 miles south, or Doheny Beach State Park Campground (FHU) in Southern Orange County.

Depending on when you do this, the fair may be in town, Orange County Fair is in Costa Mesa usually early July to Mid-August, LA County is in Pomona but I don't rember their dates....probably because last year they had temps in the 3-digit range.

Don't miss Mt. Rushmore and the other sites near Rapid City. Stop at Wall Drug in Wall, SD, the Murdo Auto Museum in Murdo, SD, Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD and spend some time at Falls Park in Sioux Falls.

Lots to see in South Dakota

Skip Illinois. There's nuthin here and the parks are still full so we don't need any more tourists . . . just kiddin'.

Chicago is the biggie in the north. You can stay at some Indiana or Michigan location and still get there but I suggest either Illinois State Beach Park or Chain of Lakes State Park. From either it's a short drive to a Metra station for a leisurely ride into the city. On the weekend the fare is $5.00 from Friday night to Monday morning (check the Metra Rail Site for details). From either park it's not a bad drive into Milwaukee or out to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

If you want to see a nice little tourist town on the western, Mississippi (see I can spell it) border check out the KOA near Lena, IL. Smack in the middle of the prairie, watch the corn grow just outside the fence. From there you can drive about 30 miles into Galena for a nice day of shopping or within another short drive you can visit the largest railway museum around. Acres of restored and many more waiting to be restored railway vehicles. A real piece of history there. the Lena KOA was our first KOA experience. It serves as the measure that all campgrounds of their category should strive to be.

Illinois is a long state so I'll leave it to someone else to handle the central (Starved Rock and more) and southern areas.

Like to fish? Go to the ridiculously RV friendly Mlle Lacs Lake area in Minnesota. Go north on 169 2 hours from the Twin Cities. Pull into the McDonalds in Garrison. They've got free ice. You can walk to everything. Holiday gas station liquor store, etc. etc. Across the street is the tourist info. booth. For $30 bucks a head you can be taken out onto the lake for 4 hours of fishing.

There are of course many choices for the RVr to park and hook up. You are 10 miles away from a casino, 2 minutes from great golf, 30 minutes from Brainerd night life and surrounded by wilderness.

I recommend Garrison cause everything is right there and they will not rip you off with their prices.

There are just sooo many awesome places ! Absolute favorite would have to be the Grand Canyon (Don't miss the Watch Tower on the South Rim)... Sunset Crater just north of Flagstaff, AZ (the Indian ruins are amazing)....Oak Creek Canyon and Sedona south of Flagstaff, AZ.
Definitely agree with Joy. You have to visit Kentucky (our home State). Cumberland Falls State Park is beautiful. Be sure to stop at Berea College (Boone Tavern is famous for it's spoonbread) and you will want to shop at Churchill Weavers. Locust Grove (Louisville, KY) is the former home of George Rogers Clark ...if you're into pottery, you will want to visit Hadley Pottery and Louisville Stoneware.
Hopefully, you will visit the Northeast also. Cape Cod is beautiful. And of course the Trolley Tour of Boston....the Adams National Historical Park and Newport, Rhode Island.

Touristy Grand canyon, Sunset crater, Stand on a corner in Winslow Az old route 66. Meteor crater, south to Sedona and wait for the convergence, or travel further south to the Phoenix area the state capitol building is impressive, Superstition Mts see if you can find the Lost Dutchmans Mine. Tucson, Tombstone, off touristy Dragoon mountains wander around see if you can find where Cochise is buried in the Cochsie stronghold. Pearce an original ghost town, Chiricahua mountains, Chiricahua Nat Monument, after that drive up turkey creek rd and locate Ringos grave, head down to Douglas, Check if crossing into Aqua Prieta is advisable on that day. Drive up route 80 out off Douglas to the spot where Geronimo surrendered ( big stone obelisk ) I believe its around skeleton canyon. Rd. Also Ft Bowie north of Chiricahua Nat Monument, about a mile from parking lot. Dos Cabezas there was a few pioneer familys wiped out during the late 1800s and it is said that they appear of the road at night. Going north theirs Ft grant which is now a prison but once held Billy the Kid. Further north is the San Carlos reservation which still mantains Ft Apache, Petrifed forest, painted desert, I think thats enough for now.
