Looks like its official, Tony's leaving Gibbs, on very friendly terms, to become 50% owner of his own racing team. I wonder if the success of the little turd Kyle has influenced his desire to leave. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Tony fan, but he does have an ego and being second best on the team probably isn't setting too well with him.

My BIL works for Hass CNC racing.......he said a couple of months ago the deal with Tony was a done deal.......just a matter of when as in '09 or '10......
I wonder if my BIL will be looking for a new job?

LOL! When I saw the title to this thread I thought it was about the TV show "NCIS" and the character Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) was leaving the team lead by Gibbs (Mark Harmon)! Since I don't follow NASCAR I have no idea who this other Tony and Gibbs are.

There are probably lots of reasons that Tony is leaving. I would guess that one of them is that he really prefers driving GM products over Toyota.
What I find ironic is the Theresa over at DEI is rumored to be looking at a buyer for the company. She turned down Junior's offer to buy 51% of DEI last year--but is now looking to get away from it by selling to someone else.
They must not like one another very much.

Tony pprobably couldn't stand being on the same team as the Busch kid. Just being around him would make me angry.

"Speculation is that Nationwide rookie Joey Logano will move into the No. 20 car vacated by Stewart. However, sources confirmed to NASCAR.COM that no decision has been made on who will replace Stewart on the team after this season."

Theresa at DEI did not turn down JR buying 51% of her business. She turned down "giving" him 51% to stay. You and I would have done the same thing. Tony will now goin a long line of stars, DW, Ricky Rudd to name two, that left successful organizations to start their own company. All failed and the last years of their racing career they raced in the mid to the back of the pack. Big mistake for Tony.
