All, as a family(5 of us) we have made the trip from Los Angeles to Mississippi via I-10(southern route)and will now be taking I-40(northern route).

Can anyone recommend a few places to see or make sure we catch on the trip down. A few things that are funky and odd would make some good memories.

The kids still talk about 'The Thing' we saw when taking the southern route a few years ago.

Thanks, Dennis

Arizona has the Meteor Crater outside of Holbrook, really interesting. Of course the painted desert. Right off 40 around Holbrook area are some funky dinosaurs your kids might like.
In Albuquerque, take the tram up Sandia Mtn and there is also Old Town which is fun.
Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo Texas. The largest Cross right off the 40 (I think this is in Groom, Texas)
In Conway Arkansas we always stay at Toad Suck COE camp. Nice back ins with water and electric and watch the barges go by.
If you need suggestions on RV parks PM me. We drive the 40 quite often. We have family in Mississippi and we spend our winters in Vegas.
Enjoy, if I think of anything else I'll let you know. Janet

In Oklahoma City, visit "Bricktown", take a water taxi ride on the Oklahoma River and visit "The Western Heritage Center".

Another place to stay in Arkansas is Ivy's Cove in, IIRC, Collierville? Nice, quiet, small, but big enough for our rig and tow, pull through with FHU and 50amp. To be honest the sky had opened just before we got there so I wasn't worried about rates. The light show from the lightning storms later that evening was spectacular!

All of the previous suggestions are good. You might want to consider a night in Amarillo and catch the show "Texas" @ Palo Duro Canyon SP, about 30mi. Nice show.
What part of Ms. are you going to. If central or south, you might want to consider heding SE on US287 out of Amarillo to Fort Worth and take I-20S around the DFW area and on to Vicksburg/Jackson. Not muche to see though, like the song says "Miles and Miles of Texas".
Enjoy

The path down the canyon at Walnut Cyn is closed due to rock slide so you can only go a few hundred feet.
