The RV business must be tough in my area(west central Fl.).I saw on the local news the other night that Lazy Dayz RV center in Dover just laid off 75 workers(reportedly only 15% of their workforce though).Sad.

Not to say the times aren't tough - but EBAY is not now, and has never been, a good indicator of RV sales. Even when times were "good" and EBAY was "HOT" - very few units met RESERVE or actually sold at auction. More units were sold "outside" of Ebay through contacts made on Ebay. A lack of bids is also due to Bidders' having "wised-up" to the fact that bids which don't meet the reserve are worthless. ALL EBAY sales are weak - people aren't mesmerized by EBAY anymore - people are "over it".
A more significant indicator is the fact that fewer "better" or newer RVs are being offered on Ebay - most newer RVs are being offered by dealers who NEVER sell. Those dealers are only interested in getting you to make contact so they can sell to you in person.
It's interesting that the anticipated FLOOD of RV sales by financially distressed owners isn't seeming to happen - and the flood of repossessed RVs is very small. With hardly any inventory on dealer's lots - and dealers trying to make enough profit to sustain business on every sale - BUYING an RV seems harder than ever!

The topic of the thread is "The message is not out yet" but it does appear it is out to everyone except our Country's leaders. Even yesterday they were holding on to the coattails of the definition of what constitutes a recession.
RV sales are off another 30% - 40% depending on category type from last year and last years sales were not very good.
Now the Dow hit below 11K this morning (I believe it will go much lower) and finally the news is out of the bag to the general public about the dire health of Freddie Mac and Fannie May. Many of us who read those terribly boring economic reports every day have know this for some time. By the way, that's just the tip of the financial mess.
Oh, and oil hit a new speculative high today.
Gee, now don't you just feel ducky about going out and spending a months pay (or more)for a new for a new toy or vacation?

Dick, u of course are right on, but , I am having a ball buying things so cheap it is very sad for the sellers. I now have a lot full of nice rvs and auto, things for the home, yard and garden, at the cheapest prices I have seen in many a year.
Thank the lord, I saved and did not borrow, but the banks want to pay me 2 1/2 % interest and loan it to others for 17%/ I can do better flipping quarters at the local barber shop or buying things cheap now that will go up.

IMHO, "our country's leaders" have received the message and they have acted. Last week my wife and I received a $1200 economic stimulus check. I won't be using it to purchase an LCD TV or other luxury item. It went in my investment account and will be there for my heirs. Investing $1200 will do more to permanently stimulate the economy than spending it.
If Obama gets elected look for a very long recovery period. Look for tax increases to generate the funds to help us all.

There are two types of people in the world.
1. Those who prefer to sit on the side lines as a commentator and
bemoan all the problems while offering absolutely no useful solutions, all the while pointing out other people's previous mistakes.
2. Those who prefer to take an active part in the situation and explore potential means of benefiting themselves and others.
There are more opportunities available today to build wealth than any time in the previous twenty years.

I see something new these days that I have not seen before. So many young couples tired to use as much levage as possible. Yet went far past the amount that they could ever cover in a time like this. Many rolled a home or two for a small amount and than decided to try a big roll. Some are behind the eight ball on one and one and half million dollar homes now that they had hope would roll out for a very large profit which now is nothing more than a past dream that will never come ture. Now they are slowly sinking.

What ever happened to buying a vehicle and only financing for 2 years? When I was first starting out (I had to finance), my Dad told if I had to go over 2 years, I was looking out of my price range. As he put it "wanting a steak on a hamburger diet". Now I see people financing vehicles for 7 years and they have to take out gap insurance in case something were to happen.

-Tom I didn't get a $1200 check, I didn't get anything, and on top of that I was charged a extra $150 per month high than must on my medacare payment. I paid for the right to get something, yet don't.
