Well, I have kind of stumbled into a quandary, I was not planning on upgrading this soon to a DP from my gasser, but I seem to be knee deep in it now.
It all started last week when I ran down to the local RV shop for a simple 30amp receptacle for a damaged extension cord. I saw a used 2006 Monaco Cayman 36pqd in their lot for $99k. I made the mistake of showing wife. Now I have been dragging wife to look at DPs for about three plus years, always knowing that in about four years we would upgrade. She never liked anything I showed her. She absolutely fell in love with this floorplan and Monaco's in general (I had always been looking at Discoveries prior).
Dealer is playing hard-ball on my trade-in, I realize its hard times, but He is going low book on mine, high book on his?? Anyway, I went to a local Monaco dealer and found a 2005 Knight for $139k.
Floorplans are almost the same, both meet our criteria. The ideal thing would be a new Caymen, but that's too much $.
Just curious what others think (others who know Monaco's)?
What is your opinion, is the Knight worht it?
Simple: 2006 Caymen for $99K or 2005 Knight for $139k
Knight will be a stretch financially, is it worth it.

While I believe that the Knight is the superior coach, it's not worth $40K more...I'd go with the Caymen and spend the rest on extras and fuel.

The NADA on the 06 is $110K so sounds like a really good deal BUT the Knight has a bigger engine and the RR8R suspension BUT the NADA on a 05 Knight is $96K to $105 depending on model SO the Knight is overpriced SO keep looking as the bigger engine and RR8R are worth a lot extra BUT not on this deal.

Brand new Knights - with more power and options - are currently being advertised for $175K. NEW, with a full warranty. Otherwise, I agree that you should be able to find a newer, RR8R chassis Knight or Ambassador for a better price - it's a better choice.

If I was going to stretch my budget, I'd get a new cayman for $139,000

Go with the knight... it has the 8 air bag suspension vs the 4 air bags on the caymen... Much better ride. it's a buyer's market, so get the dealer to come down on the Knight.

You are in the drivers seat with this economy, so you decide and then make your offer. Also, you are within easy driving distance of the best Monaco dealer in the United States, DeMartini RV in Grass Valley. The link will take you to one of their recently sold units and what you got with their asking price. They will deal, so give them a call and see what they have in stock currently.

I have an 05 Knight and it is an excellent Coach. I think you would be happier with it because of the more options it offers plus the 8 air bag chassis. The Cayman does not have taht chassis and it worth it alone.

A 2005 or later Knight will have the RR8R chassis. That alone would be my choice over the Cayman, with its 4 bagger and the ISB engine.
