hi we aare lookikng to get a hybrid trailer and am just wondering what kind of issues if any there have been with the tent ends on any model, any help would be great
Hello, we just got our unit in March of this year. We camped in the cold on Mother's Day in NE PA and even the warmth of July in Ocean City, MD. The heater and A/C worked greated, never was too cold or too warm, just right. We do have Pop Up Gizmos to protect the tops of the tent ends, I and a lot other people in here recommend them. One side is to keep the heat in and the other side to keep the cool in. I haven't had any problems with our tent ends (and knocking on wood) hope to not either.

In general, some leak around the front bunk, usually when moving.
Campground noise passes right through.
If you do not take precautions, the cold passes through easily, don't take the outside...
Some have reported kids falling out the ends, sounds like they are not permenently attached, some are, some aren't.
Some think it's a hassle to make the bed, as opposed to a TT where you do not break it down for travel.
Older models (like a year or 2 ago) use poles, most new ones do not, I don't know if you'd consider that a pro or a con though.
Condensation if you do not cover the fabric, as in Popup Gizmo's or the like.
Forgot one, you get a lot of light from the tent ends, if you use the covers then it's pretty dark.

I have a 2002 Bantam made by R-Vision. I have not had any problems with the bed ends as far as leaking, tearing, seperating or anything or anyone falling out of them. If you do a search of this topic on this site there are some of these issues that have been discussed here.

tent ends have been around for years(popups!) before hybrids were invented. we had a 1970 starcraft as our first popup. they have been improved with the vinyl over canvas.
so many issues that popup tent ends have will be similar with hybrids.
but you don't see popups not selling well because they have canvas tent ends!
because hybrids generally have two more areas that could leak than a regular travel trailer, they need to be monitored. but so do slideouts.
if poorly constructed or maintained, they can leak around the bunk door, especially the front bunk.
since the first hybrid, there were issues with early ones. most of those have been worked out now.
some brands had some bad fitting ones for a while, like KZ. but they have replaced most of those.

Also, another reason why we liked the HTT so much, we are a family of five, we would of have needed at least a 30 ft TT but we all fit nicely in a 19 HTT. Hope this helps!
thanks for all the posts, we are a family of 3 with a 4th on the way, and are looking at the 21's, some nice models out there, still don't know if we should go with the tent ends or the hard wall bedroom pop out like the outback or kodiaks

you have to like sleeping under canvas, to have to deal with the minor annoyances that come with it.
we like to feel like we're camping, not staying in a hotel room on wheels. with the canvas, we can still hear the wind in the trees, the birds and animals at nite and the gurgle of the creek.
in a regular TT, you have to leave the windows open to get that.
we would have never upgraded from our popups, if we hadn't seen a hybrid. we always felt cut off from nature with the "shoebox" travel trailers. but with the hybrid, we got the best of both.

I will back bikendan 100%. Same here, I would have never upgraded from a popup if we hadn't seen the hybrid. Nothing beats the sound of nature when you go to bed at night or when you wake up early in the morning.
Another thing you should look at is a slideout. We have a Travelstar 21sso which is 21 feet. It's got a full slideout which you should consider with the size of your family. It's a lot roomier. I'm not saying you should get a Travelstar, but you should really consider it. Many companies make HTT with slideout.
