We spent 3 years in the RGV except last year. We went to Calf and AZ. It was a great trip also to Vegas etc. We decided this year to go back to southern Texas. Looking forward to it as we have made some friends there. Got to try these Gonzales Burgers everyone's been talking about. Never heard of the place the years we were there.
Are there organized monthly luncheons so people can get together during the winter and meet? What has everyone done in the past years?
Thanks,
Toban

We've wintered in the RGV for the last 4 winters and the organized activies that I've seen are mostly in the parks. The parks we've stayed in and we've stayed in a different one every year, organize events within the park. Several of the parks have activities that you can go to if you're not staying in that park. For example, you could go to a country western dance nearly every night at different parks throughout the valley area. All the parks we've been to have a pot luck about once a week, or have exercise or line dancing a certain day of the week or social games like cards or outdoor games a certain day or time.

If you read The Winter Texan, a free weekly paper published in the Valley, you'll be able to follow along on all activities, shows, get-togethers etc. Most parks will have them available for you - middle of the week. One of the items you'll see is the different groups that meet weekly/monthly for breakfast/lunch/drinks etc. It's the Bible of the Valley - everything you need to know, and more. And of course, take your computer so you can read the Snowbird Forum daily. It will keep you in touch with all the RV.netters and what they're doing. Lots of small gatherings, often dreamed up over 5:00 Margaritas the night before. So keep on your toes for those. Also, the past 2 years there has been a gathering for RV.netters held the first part of the year. Again, watch this forum for that info. Posts by Shirley, and also by Pawatt who is our moderator on this forum furnish you with lots of info. Glad you're coming back to the Valley. We missed you last year.

And make sure when you get down to the Valley, ask for directions to Gonzales Burgers in Donna. You gotta try 'em - at least once. They're everything you've heard about - and more!

No, what I was getting at re the luncheons was, I was wondering if there are monthly get togethers with the RV.NET people during the winter for lunches and this kind of thing.
The FMCA groups have lunches every month to get people together.

There have not been any regulary scheduled monthly gatherings of RV net people. Many times during the season someone will put a post on here about meeting some where for lunch (We are going does anyone want to join us?) and a group of RV Net'rs will show up. Some of the things that just happened last year were;
Lunch and a boat ride down the Rio Grand from the Riverside
restaurant.
Lunch a Gonzales' Best Burgers!
A lunch at Grannys Restaurant, a huge burger that will feed 6 people.
Several nights at the Horsemen Saloon, great entertainment and the place is filled with winter Texans.
Lunch at Pepe's
The Great RV Net gathering hosted by Shirley & Ron.
And there were others, so I guess we do more than one per month.
Just come and have fun when you can fit it in.

I guarantee if anyone wants to get together we will find something to do.
If someone is bored and wants to get together that alone is a good reason for a party.

Did somebody say "get together??????" We're in!!!!
How about lunch at the Riverside? I could use a pork tenderloin. And we could go on another "cruise" on the Rio Grande. Told the DW that was as close as she was getting to a "real" cruise, so she better enjoy it. She did.
Come on down toban, we're a friendly bunch, and it doesn't take much prodding to suggest a get together.

Toban - If you are a member of Explorer's RV Club in Canada, there is a monthly lunch scheduled by Peggy MacDonald. We have been to a couple of them - usually held at a buffet restaurant so service is quick as sometimes there are over 100 people.
