Did some touring for a few days around San Francisco. If you are apprehhensive about hills etc I say-- don't be afraid! No you probably don't want to try winding down Lombard Street but we navigated the city just fine including Fisherman's Wharf area and Golden Gate Park. 2 B Sightings in our experience. A R/T Adventurous down around Ghiradelli Square and a RT 190 parked near the Pacific Ocean at the west end of the Golden Gate Park.

Parking available at the wharf in the open air lot adjacent to Pier 39 between Boudin's and the Franciscan Seafood Restaurant. Normal slots no problem. The same owner now had a warehouse/pier parking lot next to that open air lot at the extreme north end of Taylor next to the Boudin's kiosk fast restaurant. Get 3 hours validated by eating at seafood restaurants.

Take a full tank of gas in with you--pricy around the Bay area.

Happy Motoring this summer all!

Thanks for the post. We will be in that area late September or early October. Where did you stay while visiting the area?

Also there is lots of open parking at Crissy Field, part of the Golden Gate National Park Conservancy. http://www.parksconservancy.org/our_work/crissy/
It is close to the Marina Greens with lots of area to walk and a great view of Golden Gate Bridge, the bay and Ft. Point.

Had son and grand daughter along so we hoteled it at a nice Embassy Suites north of the SFO Airport in South San Francisco. Sorry no help with ideas of places to park and camp so to speak on this trip. Lots of parking along coast near Golden Gate Park but I have no idea if you can stay overnight in those parking lots--perhaps some one else can chime in. If you want to hotel it avoid downtown as it might be tough to use hotel parking with height of a tall camper and parking downtown is expensive to boot at hotel rates!

NVTraveler,

Thanks for the reply.

We will be on a 6 week trip of probably 10,000 miles. We have a CG picked out to stay in but are always open for suggestions.
