Recently developed a HUMMMMMM when using hot side of either water faucet or the shower. Loudness increases with opening of faucet...very low at a fast drip.?

We haven't changed anything...same hookups we've had for weeks at our volunteer location..."city" water...we're the only vols here with the issue.?

Changed hoses...no cure.?

Anybody got any suggestions?

Thanks, DR

Odd; I'd say change your filter screen, but if it's happening at both faucets I doubt that's it. I would change the regulator, Walmart, $10. Is there air in your hot water tank? Open up the hot water drain and make sure it's full of water and that all your bypass valves, etc, are opened up.

Most of the time the noise is caused by a loose or deteriorated washer on the hot side. It vibrates and causes the hum. Change it and you'll prob solve the problem. Might as well do the cold while you're in there. I prefer the flat washers instead of the beveled ones.

Just re-read your post and see its from more than one faucet-if you have a filter on the main water supply, it can cause the noise as it vibrates trying to allow water to flow. Take it out of the system if you can for a trial, or just change the cartridge. I had a similar situation in my home where I had a whole-house filter in the main line. It howled through all the piping till I finally took it out and just put a smaller one in the kitchen cold supply.

As was said above, a faulty pressure reg can also cause the noise.

Some water heaters have check valves.. Plus some rigs have pressure regulators

These two devices have a problem.. You see they don't know the lyrics so they just HUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM along (sometimes)

Ok, part joke, part serious..

Also a faucet part open will do that.

Hey, thanks folks. You've given me some ideas. I think I'll start by changing each individual part from the pedestal in. But I've got a feeling it's gonna be in the WH.

Thanks Again, DR
