Moose Kind......

As most of you know, Terry and I have been volunteering and workcamping for most of our over 8 years on the road. During the past four summers we have worked in Idaho. Among the many hats I wear, is cook for the remote fish camp which is 18 miles up the Snake River. Access is by boat...no roads, so we bring everything in by jet boat. Each day we go up, spend the night, then back to the resort for fresh supplies, then up river again.

Wildlife is abundant and it is a peaceful, quiet way to spend time.

We did have a "close encounter of the moose kind" last night. The dishes were done and we were all (8 of us...My boss/camp owner, me, 2 quides and four clients) sitting around the campfire telling lies and all of a sudden we hear a loud crashing and splashing. 20' in front of us comes a bull moose, full antlers in velvet trotting right thru our camp. He looked at us,stopped, studied us for a minute (seemed like an eternity). We all just sat there, stunned...then he proceeded to trot off to the first tent, inspected it and then stayed around for a bit more before wandering in search of the cow that frequents the camp

Yup, I have a great time with absolutely super folks. Most times they know someone we know or lived in a area we have....some personal connection. I just can't say enough good about our times here in Idaho.

I agree with that. No Pics? Gotta raise the BS flag on that one.

Sounds like a great time.

Alright you guys, easy the no Pics thing. When you have a large animal such as a bull Moose come through your camp, you are spending more time trying to not poop your pants then worry about taking pics. LOL

LOL - I just got this ridiculous mental image of a cheesy moose bar - young bucks out looking for love in all the wrong places, trying too hard to look cool in shades and bad knock-off Italian shirts...er, no. That's Miami on a Saturday night.

Sorry. Just woke up. Still fuzzy.

Snake River, huh? I've always said it's probably the most beautiful place on Earth. That stretch through SE Idaho on the way into Jackson Hole...man! Breathtaking. What a smart/lucky/rich girl you are!

That is why our summer home is now the mountains of western Idaho. Great fishing, wildlife viewing, ATV riding and absolutely the best people of all states we have ever visited.

Now that's the truth! I had a similar encounter....and it was a female...but man, was she BIG...and wooohooo...what a stench!

Sounds like a fantastic place....will put it on my list.

Why Full-Timing? Because at my age, I have maybe 40 more chances to see flowers bloom.
