Well...it's kind of a long story (not mechanical) but I am faced with a decision to trade to a Chevy or a Ford.

Staying with Diesel.

My choices are to get an 08 F250 Lariat with the 6.4 PSD or the 08 2500HD with D/A.

The thing I don't like about the new Chevy's is how small the wheels look in the giant wheel wells. It just looks a little strange to me.

I like the Ford b/c of all the extra stuff like Free Nav right now, electric telescoping mirrors, back up camera, blah blah blah and there are special financing as well as extra money for Ford loyalty etc. I do NOT want another King Ranch eddition.

I am a tad confused at all the config options on the Chevy's. I suppose I would need to get an LTZ to compare to a Lariat.

I would like to hear from owners who have gone from Ford to Chevy and why?

I have about a week to decide.

BTW does anyone have the bed height for a 2500? I cannot seem to find it for Chevey. I know the Ford is 33.8/34.5

Thanks

RR

I bought an new 1992 F150 50miles from my home. The first day I had it, it threw the belt. Dealership told me to drive it the 50miles back and they would put a new one on for me.

A month later, the starter started locking engaged. I was told that if the fly wheel wasn't "TOO MESSED UP" they would just replace the starter.

Month three and all the gauges flipped out and none worked.

Within the first year, the transmission went out.

During the second year, the transmission went out a couple more times.

Now as we all know, you get a rental car if warranty work takes overnight. Guess what, I was under 21. No one would rent me a car. I was on my own. I couldn't borrow parent's car and Ford just rent them the rental. They weren't on the title.

Tried to change the fuel filter myself. It was way back in a hole and took a special tool, which I broke off in the filter and had to have the truck towed to a mechanic to fix.

Mom bought a Probe 1 month after I bought my truck and her troubles made mine look small.

Each dealership we took the vehicles to, after making appointments, would wait a day or two after the drop off to even pull them in to work on them.

I called Ford to complain and they told me to talk to the dealerships, it wasn't their concern.

As long as I live, I will never lower myself to owning another Ford. I would drive a Dodge first.

Mike

NO< tell me its not so, Not you in a chevy??

Serious though,
I went from the 6.0psd to a duramax in GMC because I could not trust the 6.0 psd......

I think the super duty is an awsome truck, but didnt care for motor.... I like the duramax.... it is Awsome......when I drove it I had to have it..I like the stance of the super duty..sits higher, more cab room, solid truck... I think the D-max has the edge in its motor and tranny... and i think the seats of the GM or better...

But as far as the New ford.... Great Looking truck and seems to be a good motor.....

Each has its positives/negatives.... I guess one just has to decide what is most important to them.. Although I think I would trust the D-max a little more than the 6.4 BUT I think IF I was in the market today I would try the ford...

Should I chime in?

I think you know what I'd chose.

And the smaller wheels is a minor reason to get discouraged.

I would still take a Ford over a ricer.

Go take them both for a ride and see which one... well, this is a family forum.

Good Luck choosing.

If you get the Chevy with LTZ package you can get the 265 tires with the 17" aluminum wheels.

These look much better in the wheel wells than do the 245/75-16s IMHO.

And yes, the LTZ is the top of the line interior package. I assume the Lariat in the ford is as well?

Can't tell you about the Chevy but I love my 08 F250 6.4. Have all the options you mentioned backup camera, brake controler, power fold/telescope mirrors and torqueshift auto trans tow/haul works great. Currently have 16K miles on it so far no problems.

Bought mine last fall but wish it was now with the great incentives their offering.

stay away from the power stroke diesels... I was going to buy an f250 but after about fifteen minutes on google I had very little confidence in the PSD's...

now onto the duramax or cummins... well... call your local parts store and get a price on an air filter and a oil filter and a water pump for each both a 2500HD Dmax and a Dodge 2500HD cummins... once you have those prices to compare with, get the price on the lift pump and presure pump...

then go buy what suits you best... I think chevy makes a better looking truck both inside and out, but I think cummins is a better engine...

for me the difference in price is too much so i went with a 6.0L gas job... I can buy a lot of gasoline for the difference in the initial cost..never mind the cost of maintenance..

I seriously considered a Chevy/GMC, bought a Dodge, have (had) absolutely no interest in a Ford and I have no idea why. Try a Dodge before you decide. You'll be surprised. Get the one you like best and/or get the best deal on.

Ford would be my choice. I have had a Dodge, GMC, Chev etc but I keep going back to Ford because they have been more dependably for me

I was always a FORD man. Had a 2002 - F250 - 4X2 - 7.3 ltr P/S -extended cab - short bed and I loved it. Best engine Ford ever made. Came a time when we moved from Miami to the Tennessee country and didn't need the short wheel base for city driving. Wanted to trade up to a crew cab - long bed. Still love the looks of the Fords, but the reputation of their new diesel engines is that they would pass anything on the highway but a fuel stop. Shopped around and decided on the GMC LTZ (same as the Laredo). Love the Duramax, its quiet and gets great mileage. The Allison transmission is the cat's meow. Like to say I chose the GMC over the Chevy because the front end looks more like a Ford, but in the end, I got it because I wanted an 07 (much better rebate) that met my requirements and the GMC dealer found me one when the Chevy dealer couldn't. If you can live with the mileage and you like the Ford better, go for it. Remember, its your money so shop around and get what you want.
