Hi; we own a Jayco 17A Hybrid camper and have been towing with Dodge Dakota Club Cab just fine on short trips. We want to take on 6 hour drive and are looking for advice on which WD Hitch and Sway bar set-uo we should buy. Any advice is will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Make sure your trailer is compatible with a weight-distributing hitch first. This information will be in the instruction manual. Many of the smaller trailers don't have a heavy enough tongue to withstand a weight distributing hitch, and the tongue will bend instead of distributing the weight.
One of the hitches with integrated sway control would be best, IMHO. Reese Dual Cam, also sold under other brand names. You probably need the lightest spring bars available.

How much does the RV weigh. Maybe you don't need either.

the highest rated here are the Equalizer or the Reese Dual-Cam. the best place to buy the Equalizer is RVWholesalers.

Unless you have at least a 400lb tongue weight, forget about the Dual Cam. It needs a minimum of that much to be effective. I second the recommendation to make sure your trailer is capable of using a WD hitch. If it is not, then the friction sway control would probably be your best bet.

Thanks for all the advice. Here's what I know; unit dry is around 2700 lbs, GAWR 2900 lbs, GVWR 3450 lbs, do not know where to locate tongue weight?. The manual (which is a general manual for smallest 17A (which we have)and a 30'travel trailer and only thing distinctly listed is ball height and size (our is 2" ball 16.5" height having said that; they do recommend a Class IV WD hitch for all towable travel trailers and in BOLD print recommend anti-sway ro sway control. States contact your hitch/RV specialist, etc. So I'm thinking Reese Dual Cam or similar? Any further advice is greatly appreciated.

I think in your case I would go with the Equal-i-zer hitch
in the 600/6000lb configuration. It is the smallest one they make. It will provide the WD you want plus give you sway control in one unit.
It is their stock #14-2926 600lb/6000lb $449.99, with free shipping, and unless you live in Ohio, probably no tax either.
Another choice would be the Pro Series hitch by Reese in the 750/7500lb configuration. It is a bit cheaper in price and should work well also.
Code: #49578, Price: $330.95, also with free shipping and no tax.
In both cases, you would need to add the proper size ball to your order.

Your trailer is the same dimensions as my popup (17', 2900# dry, 3500# GVWR). I added sway to the trailer and Airlifts to the truck and it pulls like a dream, even over bad roads. A 7500# WDH seems like overkill unless you intend to upgrade to a bigger TT at some point.

Do you need one? Those weights seem pretty small to me.
