Our AE power awning ( like a lot of others ) would fill up with water and never drain. It could get so bad that the awning would not retract without pushing up on the awning and getting soaked by the waterfall coming off. It does not have a automatic dump feature like some other brands, and retracting it a little would not tighten the fabric to avoid the large puddle.
So I went to Home Depot and bought a 3/8" Grommet kit and installed two grommet holes in the deep end of the awning pool.It took me about 10 minutes and problem solved.
I might put a brick or downspout water diversion thingy under the flow to avoid a mud puddle.
I will try to attach pics.

Thanks for the post. FWIW: The more I read about auto awnings, the more I think I'm glad we passed on ordering one when we bought our current 5'er back in "ought 3". Everyone we know with an auto awning, all gripe about them not shedding water, not dipping on one side to shed water, retracting when they shouldn't and not retracting when they should, etc, etc, etc. Hope auto awning's improve before we buy our next RV when we retire.
Happy camping!! See ya'll down the road!!!

We still love ours. Just a few design flaws that we can live with. Nothing beats pushing a button and having the awning deploy.

Love our power awning. Nice feature is when it looks like it is going to storm/rain, push the button and roll it in where it is safe and cannot be destroyed by wind/water pooling.

What a great idea. I too have the power awning from AE and I'm not a fan. I sent AE an email asking about rain and they basicly said nothing can be done. Rolling up the awning when it rains is not an option(unless it's a really bad storm) I don't know about anyone else but I like sitting outside during a rain and I have plenty of things on the patio I don't want wet.
How hard was the install? Can it be done with the awning on the trailer?

The install took me about 10 minutes. The hard part was finding a 2/4 to put under the gromut so I could hammer it in place. You will need to use a step ladder, and place the 2/4 vertical, under the awning for a good work surface.
Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. How well do the holes drain? Quick enough to withstand a good down pour? My awning is like 20' long or so so I'm thinking a row of 4 or 5 may be best.

My awning is 18' long and it collects a lot of water. The two holes that I put in work well. I used 3/8" grommuts. You can add more or use a larger grommut. I think Home Depot sells a 3/4".

We have a power awing and love it!! We have the awing bows that keeps the awing bowed up so rain will not stay on the awing and also keeps it from flopping in the wind.
