Driving home today, turned on the lights and after about 45 min the dash lights, running lights and tail lights went out. Brake lights, headlights, turn signals and toad lights all ok. Too late to check lines. Looking for suggestions before I get started in the am. Off on a 3 week trip!

Its a blown fuse. On most vehicles, when the tail light fuse blows, its also on the same circuit as the dash lights (thus gives you an instant warning that you don't have tail lights). I used to think that all vehicles were wired that way and I believe they were back in the day, but some vehicles don't subscribe to that old engineering.

It has to be a fuse. Look for you automotive fuses and fine the one that is bad.

It doesn't have to be a fuse. I had a situation similar to yours. Had no taillights or running lights, but had headlights, brake lights and turn signals - ALL fuses were good. Pulled the headlight switch and discovered that I had a burnt leg on the switch.

No fuse in this circuit. Turns out the wire from the light switch goes to the SmartWheel Module - which is bad. We'll replace it tomorrow. It is a little pricey ($350) - but it has to be replaced. Thanks for the input.
