I store my trailer in my backyard. My question is: is it better to leave a small crank out window and the roof vents open during the hot months to let it breathe or is it better to leave them closed to keep the humidity out?

We live in Arkansas, our average temps get anywhere from 95-105 with humidity in the 75-90% range during July and August. I have maxair covers over my vents to keep the rain out.

Which way is best. Leave them open or close them?

Thanks,

Coffee

In Colorado, we don't have the humidity problem you do, but I leave the vents open all the time...MaxxAir covers keep rain and critters out. I'd think you'd get humidity inside regardless since there are other openings into the interior. Unless you've sealed everything up airtight, which would be almost impossible, at least in our trailer.

Another way to ask the question is - Does closing the vents keep the humidity out, or does it trap the humidity inside? Personally, I leave my roof vents open to get some air circulation.

With the Maxxair covers, we leave them open, and we live in nearly as humid a climate as you do. We even leave them open all winter (but cover the trailer). It has really helped with air circulation and, at least in our past trailer, definitely helped prevent condensation during winter storage. (Haven't had this trailer over the winter yet.)

We have Maxxair covers. Vents stay open year round for air circulation. We're in Southern California where summers get quite warm, 97 today actually. Haven't had any problems yet.

Leaving the vents closed won't really hurt anything, UNLESS it is very humid inside or the shower, etc., is wet when you close it up, and UNLESS and UNTIL your trailer leaks and water gets inside. Then, if you have no ventilation, your trailer will begin to smell like mildew, because parts of the inside (most commonly the parts which are out of sight) ARE mildewed. And this smell is next to impossible to get rid of if you can't find where it's coming from. If you can ventilate the trailer without the possibility of rain blowing in, then it's a good idea to do so. It's especially important to ventilate a new trailer as often and as thoroughly as possible to help to minimize the glue and formaldehyde fumes which are so strong when you first bring a new one home.

I used to leave mine open but DW said to much dust would come in for her to have to clean up.

Now leave closed but I think it best to leave slightly open.

We leave a Maxxair vent open all year round when stored. TT is not covered & it does fine over the winter. No problems with mold or condensation. It can be very humid here also.
