Been looking at coaches recently. This morning I looked at some painted ones and some that were not. Some of the painted ones had, what looked like rock pecks, in the paint on the front of the coach. I noticed that none of the unpainted coaches had these pecks. Is this common with painted coaches? Salesman says to get a leather bra and hide the pecks. To me, that would defeat the painted look. Not all the painted ones had the pecks, but several did. I sure don't want to pay big bucks for rock pecks.

The paint is probably cheaper that's why they do it. Gel coat and decals looks so much better.

Might try to find a painted unit with Diamond Shield on front. That clear material does a pretty good job of keeping the rock dings to a minimum. Ask the sales person how much it costs for full body paint with good clear coat on a moho.

Paint is not cheaper. Usually $8000-$10000 option on a coach for full body paint.

As a another poster stated, try Diamond Shield .

Unpainted fiberglass also gets chipped, but it doesn't show as much. Same with scratches, it gets scratched, but doesn't look that much worse for the wear.

If you want pretty, and can do the work to keep up the appearance, get full body paint.

If you plan to routinely drag the motorhome through trees, and catch rocks on gravel roads, you might consider unpainted, then not worry so much what you are doing to a $10,000 paint job.

If, I were in the market for a new coach it would have full body paint in that it's much easier to maintain. I have one without and I'm always dealing with the oxidation. I would however have the clear 3M material put on the front to minimize paint damage from road grit.

So why is paint "cheaper"? And why does "Gel coat and decals" look so much better? Do you not know or deal with decals fading and pealing? Do you not know or deal with gel coat with cracks and with oxidation??? You really have to be kidding right???

I think you are wrong on this as for feeling of general population. Paint is much better looking. See any Newells or Prevosts with gel and decals? My old travel trailer had gel and decals and I'm not high on that either for maintaining a good look.

I've had both and full body paint is worth every penny. Very easy to clean, no oxidation, minimal black streaks. 3M on the front prevents 99.9% of the rock chips. Now they gravitate to the windshields!
