Camped in PA last week had reservation in Knoebels till friday, booked late and could not get weekend. So I called a few CG's in the Delaware Water Gap area for an overnight Friday, was going to stop at the Marshall's Creek flea market on Saturday. Two of the campgrounds I called had a two night minimum, I even asked one of them that you must be full, which he replied with an "oh no we are not full", so I said " then why are you turning away business." He repeated the two night minimum and hung up. The other CG might give me an overnigt if I drove up, but would not budge on the $45/night price plus kids.
The third CG was Pocono Vacation Park, the women said sure come on in $31/night pull through with full hook up and 50amp. Great place, clean and a lot of activites did not have to pay for. And the people were terrific, I will be back.
I understand that CG's have certain policies, but to turn away business when you have openings is just plain nuts. Especially when in this economy CG's are not filling up like they used to. Anyway it was a blessing in disguise, I now have a new weekend retreat to go to. Please disregard any mispellings, Spell check is not working.

Pocono Vacation Park sounds like a nice place. I too will probably camp there now. I would send a link to this thread to the other campgrounds so that they can see that a lot of people will be aware of how they operate and are only hurting themselves with this type of attitude.

I ran into the same problem at Crooked Creek, CG in upper SC. I wanted to stay for a month and a half. They said I could but because of the Memorial day, I would have to move the third week because the spot I was about to rentin was already reserved. I asked if there wasn't any other spots and was told that they were all reserved for weekends. Not having much choice, I took it. When the time was up, wanted to stay another month. Same story. I was moved three times. AND, as you said, during the week, the place was darn near empty. Have to admit though, the weekends were full, with nary an empty space.
Some of the office people are doing what they are told to do. Probably doesn't make sense to them either. We worked at one place where we couldn't bend the rules no matter what. We had to do as manager said. Didn't work there again.

I think Crooked Creek is in St. Mary's GA near the FL border.
I have to protect the reputation of SC state parks.

Let's say they gave you the spot. They have now made an exception. Do you know what it's like when different folks pay different rates, or have to abide by different rules ?? Then the front desk REALLY has to pay. Or.....YOU abided by the 2 day rule and some guy next to you tells you that they made an exception for him. You would now be posting that the campground made an exception for someone and you're upset and will never step foot there again.

Same thing here. You have a reservation at ABC campground for Memorial Weekend. They gave away your spot because some guy wanted it for a month. Look at both sides before getting upset. They may be turning away business, but all in the sake of trying to keep the peace and customers happy. Think about it......
I find the 2-night minimum rather strange. I rarely ever stay in one spot. I have an RV to travel and see things. Imagine a hotel demanding a minimum stay.
In many cases you have employees of the owner on duty and they are obligated to keep to the company policy. If you are dealing directly with an owner the odds are greater that you could get an exception based on the occupancy rate that weekend.
I don't know about the rest of you, but it would never occur to me to ask a neighbor at the RV park I was at what their rate was. Seems kind of nosey to me, and pointless. If I agreed to pay a certain rate for a certain number of nights then I must have thought it was fair, or I wouldn't have agreed to pay it, and what do I care what someone else pays unless I'm the kind of person who just spends a lot of time looking for inequity in life. That's a big dead end to me.....and it's probably why a well known Apostle once wrote "compare not yourselves one with another"...he must have known it was a dead end, too....IMHO.

You haven't stayed in many hotels around tourist areas I take it? Try to make a reservation at the beach in the summer for just a weekend, three-night minimum at most of them. Some of them won't even rent for a weekend, only a week! Many hotels around major tourist areas have a minimum when making a reservation, they may make exceptions if there is a vacancy and you walk-in.
