Nice looking rig tjhub. Looks like the same floorplan as my Jayco 27bh. Thank your wife for talking you into it. It is hard to beat a tt. I had a pop-up once upon a time to but wouldn't trade for anything now. Happy camping and welcome to the forum. Mike

Thanks Mike. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the TT this past weekend. The ease of setup, the awning, the bunk beds (my son and daughter REFUSED to share a bunk in the pop-up, the bathroom and shower, the room, etc. Camping has gotten a lot easier and much more relaxing. There are things I liked about the pop-up, but the TT is so much better that the positives outweigh the negatives.
You're right about our TT's being near identical. I looked at the same Jayco at my dealer prior to getting the PUMA. The Jayco has a few nicer touches, but I couldn't pass up the deal on the PUMA as it was nearly $3K cheaper. I got a fantastic deal on the thing, which is why I caved in and made the purchase. I can't wait to use it again in two weeks.
Samething happened to me after buying 27bh jayco. Pulling with a 2001 chev 1500 5.7. Went back to my shop had my foreman slap in 410 gears reflash pcm and changed shift points for trans. Now I can pull @60 mph no problem in tow haul mode. Went to 70 mph once to see if it would do it but wont pull over 60 mph.

I thought about different gears, but I'm not certain I'll tow enough miles to justify the change. I am seriously considering custom PCM tuning from Black Bear Performance. I have an email into them now. I'm not certain I *need* to do anything at this time. I want to see how the next couple of outings go and I'll make my decision.
I took an outback for a test tow before purchase. It was around 5400 dry and my suburban (1500) struggled on some fairly flat west texas interstate. I opted for a lighter unit (kz spree 240bh) and definately glad I went with the lighter unit.
I think you'll need to really upgrade the TV to a 3/4 ton. I saw some post on the 2500 suburban the last few days and they weren't real favorable for much additional towing.
Good luck.

4,000 - 5,000 RPM 2nd gear pulling hills is normal. I have the 6.0 in a 1500HD crew and just let the cruise do its thing. My 6.0 is rated for max torque(sp) at 4,500 and max HP at 5,000. I tend to only run about 55 - 60 mph.
I experienced the same thing with my TT and my Expedition. So, I traded it in on a used Excursion and am extremely happy. I just towed it for the first time for 150 miles, and some decent grades, and could not even tell that the trailer was back there! I went with the Excursion primarily for the extra space inside, as I now have 3 labs, 2 kids and a DW (who is the one that keeps rescuing the dogs). Great prices on them now, with the fuel prices, which also bit me on trying to sell the Expy, which is why I traded it in. I also wanted a TV that was heavier than or close to the weight of the TT (may sound weird). Now that I have a better TV, maybe I can start looking at a bigger TT!
Upgraded from pup! TV is 2005 Excursion V10. TT is now a Wildwood T250RS (upgrade from the Jayco pup that we had for 12 years). One wife, 2 kids and 3 labs!
Our setup is really similar to yours, albeit Titan/Hideout instead of Yukon/Puma - we are at about the same trailer weight and tow vehicle specs (actually, you have a better gear ratio). Obviously, since I feel confident with our setup, it is my opinion that you have enough truck for your trailer, seeing as your max trailer weight according to your truck specs is 8100 and your PUMA's GVWR is 7530. You, like us, because of your low payload capacity of 1600lbs just need to watch your truck weight and load it light. If your keeping your tongue at 12% of your loaded trailer weight of around, say, 6200 lbs, that gives you around 850lbs for passengers and stuff. We have a little less than that and we hit it pretty fast.
We were having simliar issues as far as trying to find the highway cruising sweet-spot (with a 1/2 ton in headwinds, forget it, you're going 50mph with screaming RPM's- I'm talking calm weather and flat grades sweet spot). Anytime we exceeded 60mph in fair conditions, we were constantly skipping up and down gears and not dropping under 2500 RPM's. What seemed to do the trick was putting back in the K&N air filter that we had removed a few years ago. It didn't seem to do squat in the truck alone, but used when towing, we are able to maintain 65-67MPH under at 1900 RPM's. Sweet spot found. I also second not using cruise control.

Thats the same here in IL. but with all due respect to the laws, 55 just ain`t happening here! you WILL get run over! I usually cruise at 65-68mph. I tried 62, but the X does not like running at that particular rpm.
As a side note. try running at 55 going through western MN and eastern SD. you won`t be doing 55 for very long.

I'd suggest for any newbies to TT towing to take your rig out of overdrive when towing (if so equipped). Lowers your final drive ratio a bit, so takes the strain off the engine / trans, keeps the downshifting to a minimum.
