Hello all, just bought a 24ft 93 fleetwood wilderness. Trailer weighs 6200 pds.My tow rig is a 03 half ton suburban. Just looking for the best set up to tow safely, i would really appreciate any and all advice on what equalizer hitch set up would work best. I saw the E-QUAL-IZER hitch for sale for $379.00, is that the best hitch for the money? Any help would be much appreciated.
Equal-i-zer is one of the best ones; that's what we have, and so far is our only experience with sway-control WD hitches. Reese Dual Cam gets good reviews too. Both are much less expensive than the "best of the pack" Hensley. Be sure that the hitch is the right weight for the trailer; they come in different weight ratings.
Is that 6200# the loaded or "dry" weight for the trailer? When figuring out what hitch to get, you'll need to go by the GVWR and max tongue weight rating of the trailer, not the dry weight.
We really like our Equal-i-zer. It is our 1st EQ-type hitch and I also had no idea what I was looking at! Equal-i-zer has a free DVD you can send for. It is a sales pitch, but I understand EQ hitches better now.
The Equal-i-zer is a simple, user-friendly setup that combines weight-distribution and sway control.
Good luck!
