It sometimes seems even more empty after losing a family member that has required special care and treatment. We all know you did the extra things that made her life as good as it was. Our sympathy to you both.

Linda, what a brave girl you had -- through those medical issues. And how good-hearted of you and your husband to keep her healthy and painfree as long as it was possible. Very very sorry for your loss.
Please take care.

Linda, I'm so sorry... But I'm glad that you got a good little chunk of extra time with her after the surgery.
They just don't stay "in fur" long enough, do they? She'll be around you though, for sure. Be sure to talk to her. Tell her you want to see her/feel her/hear her around.

Thank you all for your kind understanding and thoughts. I was blessed that I had her for 12 1/2 yrs but would have really wanted her around another 25 yrs or so. Cat - thanks for your wonderful poem.
Just leaving the house and returning is so painful. She used to be there to greet either me or DH when we left for even 15 min.
I remember when she was younger (and still had sight) she used to 'steal' DH's socks. She knew she wasn't supposed to. He'd be getting ready for work and if he didn't 'notice' she had mouthful of socks, she was bump him on his leg to let him know so the chasing could begin. Such an actress!

What a wonderful memory of your Mitzi... thank you for sharing it Linda. I hope that many of your memories will sneak into your heart and bring a smile to your face, even if at times it is through your tears. I've always known Mitzi was a special girl, I just didn't know she was an actress.

Heartfelt condolences from here too...know only too well what your going through now. It is the hardest decision we have to make, but we make it with our love for them.
Just remember she can now see, and play again, and be pain free and she will be waiting for you.
I too held Sofie's leash and collar for a long time, there still is a faint whiff of her still on it, I keep it in my closet, and I do talk to her all the time, I can see her grave from the back door and I always say good night and good morning to her...it keeps her closer.
