We will be traveling in the UP of Michigan and the west side of Michigan the first 2 weeks of August. We are interested in low cost camping, we need electricity hookup. We have Golden Age Passport card. Also interested in must see attractions in both areas. Will be traveling in the 5th wheel, coming from northern Wisconsin. All and any help will be accepted. Thanks

Low cost and west side of michigan don't match in August. where are you driving through, us-31 or us-131? What do you want to see or do?

Try Platte River campground at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (just west of Traverse City on Lake Michigan). Your Golden Age will get you half-price camping, with electric, showers and flush toilets. It also happens to be in the most beautiful part of the state.

Here's a link to a map which will show the locations of the state parks and links to them.

The Lake Michigan campground mentioned by GizmosMom is too small for a 5th wheel (IMHO.) However just north of it is Breevort Campground, also in the Hiawatha National Forest. Just be sure you have the NFS one, not the one in the state forest.

Better check for openings though because most campgrounds, State parks anyway, on the west side have long been booked up. People on the east side are traveling to the west side more then up north to the UP. Books up on the west side anyway.
