Mod. Please don't move this to the Canada forum. The link/story is just too interesting and incredible and deserves greater exposure. Maybe, since there is a mention of RVs being on the runway, it could go under General RVing?? What a story!

Having read this story many years ago I am still awed by the prowess and coolness at which these men operated when faced with a life and death situation. They are no less than heroes for what they were able to accomplish. It is no less remarkable than the success attributed to the Apollo 13 crew and there heroism.

The Gimli Glider was retired recently. It made it's final flight on January 24, 2008. Both pilots, Bob Pearson and Maurice Quintal were on board for the final flight.

I remember the incident like it was yesterday. At the time, the miscalculations of the fuel load was blamed on the then "new to Canada" metric system.

An incredible screw up that no one caught, including the crew. Great recovery though.
